Bradley update
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, October 6, 2003 3:55 PM
Okay.. Its been far too long since I last worked on this thing. In the meantime I went and bought myself some pastels (my first pasterls (tm) ) and decided to take the plunge and see what'll happen. Apologies for the horrendous picture quality, I had to take these pics with my webcam.

Any tips welcome.

Looks good as far I can tell. The one I built must not have been from a great maker since there is no where near the detail that one has.

Great looking build, from what I see. I have the Tamiya M2 Interior kit, but haven't really started it yet. Waiting for all of the diorama stuff to come together.
I've never really worked with pastels on a model. How easy was it for you?

Not too bad. I just have to find a really satisfying way (i.e. use what I've got at home and not have to pop down to the shops to get some supplies), but the results aren't too bad so far. Nice thing about pastels is a light scrub with some water will undo the mistake.. I hope :D

The set of 10 pastels I bought has the various shades of rust in it (black through to orange) and a nice couple of white and sand for some dust. Looking forward to applying that. Just have to wait for the girlfriend to go out for an evening so I can swipe her powder brush..

I wish this kit had the interiour. Its a shame I have to have the doors shut, because I'm sure it would make a great dio...

Micheal , I built the 1:35 Lee kit. Never heard of them before and have not seen one of thier kits since. It was my first armor kit so I did'nt know about the better ones. Learning is one of the things that comes along with this hobby though.

This is the first 35th scale armor kit I'm properly building, and the second 35th armor I've ever built. I've mainly been an AC person, until I found out that armor is much more lived in than most aircraft. Its more fun to dirty up a tank. Especially at this scale. You can really get a taste of the crews life. I'm having a lot of fun building this thing.

Do any of you know if somebody makes a after-market kit to update an "M2 A nothing" to an M2A2 or even an M6 Linebacker (ADA version)? I have the older Tamiya M2 kit with interior and wanted to make one with the newer "square" sides without having to build another Bradley.

Good job on the weathering!

Thats pretty much what got me into armor. That and theres not much cooler than some big chunk of steel that can go about anywhere and make big messes of about anything.

Oh, hey, does anyone know if I've got the big dark diesel smoke stain in the right place? I'm not too sure on whats the exhaust, so I took a wild guess..

good job there mike. i had built 1 myself, t'was a 1/35
M2 by Academy but didn't come close to the weathering you did there. as far as i can tell by the picture, it's good. 'bout that smoke stain, i guess that's the place, that's where the engines suppose to be & the exhaust outlet.Big Smile [:D] more power.

The exhaust is actually the small raised chute forward of the smaller grill along the top right side of the hull. The large and small grills are the air intake for the engine and radiator and do not get sooty. If anything they get coated by dust in the air during air induction.

The actual exhaust pipe is ducted through that raised chute. The inside of the chute is extremely sooty, but that's it. It doesn't settle onto the hull sides.

Nice job, keep us posted.

Targetdriver: Although there is no update to make one of the straight M2s into an M2A2, some people have ordered the M2A2 sprue from Tamiya to update their earlier M2 kit.

I combined the Academy interior with the Tamiya M2A2, updating the interior according to the ODS (Operation Desert Storm) mods. described in Hunnicutt's book. Then, added a LOT of stowage for Iraq. AFTER all that was done, I finally found photos of A2's in Iraq and didn't notice any ODS mods on them... oh well. You'll see the build in a future FSM.Smile [:)]... with the ODS modifications.Blush [:I]
It took me a LONG time to make that thing, but it's sure a cool vehicle.... rather be in an M1 though.

Michael! I forgot to mention that I think you're doing a super job on your kit. I agree with Maj. G though, I've never seen a big exhaust stain on the side of a vehicle with a good engine... then, if the engine goes bad, it's a big shiney BLACK smear! Ouch!!! Keep of the great work!

Ron.

Now, the back of an M60 series has lots of black on the grille doors, since the exhaust exits inside of the rear grilles.

Thanks Rob. I had a feeling that it was the exhaust cover.. Off to the showers with the M2 we go. Oh, is the fuel port the small round cover beside the exhaust?
