Well here's the nearly finished product, I'm going to rework that shield one last time. As you can tell the decal didn't turn out so hot. I need to research what printer is best suited for printing on decal paper. Looks cartoonish if I say so myself. But getting the right effect on the backboard, and post washing of the decal will give it the weathered beaten look we would like to see.

You know it almost looks like the same shield but in the shape of like what the old SAC emblem was in. Instead of the sides being streight up and down maybe a little bulge at the bottom.

Any speculation as to what's under the shield?

Thanks Krank, 7th ID and 31 Reg is known without a doubt. What I have doubts about is this sheild

Being this Coat of Arms

What looks like an "A" on top of the crest is the Polar Bear of the 31st IMHO, but I just can't make the rest of the COA look like whats in that sheild.

And this is the last part i need to do to call this complete.

ok, here we go. This is what i got, the jeep belongs to a Battalion Commander, Battalion is abbreiviated to BN, and commander is CO. What most of them seem to agree on, is that it is the 31st.

OH! I thought I told that. He had just washed the Jeep in the creek just outside their camp. Dad didn't get many vehicles stuck, for long. I have a picture somewhere of him getting his D20 stuck in the bank of the lake when the water was down. Had to get the D5 to get it out. hmmm...Next project maybe...

I just figured the jeep is stuck mid stream due to water in the engine and I was curious as to if thats what happened.

help! Been doing some test pours with this Woodland Scenes "Realistic Water" and running it to a problem. It AINT drying! It's still as liquid as it was when I poured? I don't see this product being something I can work with on this project. Has anyone worked with clear casting resin? Is there any dummy guides for using this stuff. I read that it sets up rather quickly, that's what I need so there's no leakage from my mold. If you know another product to use for water sing out. HELP!

Just wanted to update y'all with this little project. Here's the completed jeep. Weathering is at a minumum because, well duh, it's just been washed. I have a light dusting of buff mixed with future and oversprayed, it's not showing well in pictures for some reason and I'm afraid to over do it. The Rock/sand base is done and tonight I will start pouring "water" and bring this to a close. Will post more later. Thanks for all your help.

Well I had a marathon build today. Got all the little loose ends tied in and I think I'm finished with the jeep. Short of the registration numbers and other decails. Thanks for all ya'lls help and see ya on the diorama board.

Looks good to me.  The seat color and the antenna came out great.  Good job.  Can't wait to see it finished and mounted on the base.

Ok guys, thanks for the direction, here's my attempt at the antenna.

I just wantedto show off the motor one time. I'm covering it up for good now. When I was starting I wasn't sure how I was going to disply so I did my attempt at super detail, failed with the ignition wires but did get a gas line in place if you can see it. It's sitting on the pile of rocks I'm going to use for the river bed. Nothing perniment yet, just sitting there.

How's the color of the seats now? I"ve already applied some more coats so it doesn't look this bad.

Can't figure out why I couldn't get the base to stand up streight. Antenna and radio set in place. I know you guys can tell me that radio is not the one that was used in Korea, but it's the one that came with the PE kit so creative license kicks in now.

I have another antenna mount so if this one really blows let me know and I can yank it off and retry one more time.

Thanks for all ya'lls comments.

Lookin good! I mixed a few drops of tan into OD for the canvas seats on my MB. Sorry, no pics. I can get around a workbench OK but a 'puter, not so much!

Canvas! opps, never saw that mentioned in research, not sure I looked for it either, just assumed, we know what that gets us.

Well I got all day to do building today, I think I'll go with both options on the antenna and see what turns out.

It looks like it is coming along well.  The antenna looks right to me.  Good job on it.  The seats were not leather though.  They were covered in canvas.  I would paint them a lighter shade of OD and weather them with some dark tan or buff.  They faded quickly when exposed to the elements constantly.  Right now, they look too much like the same color as the rest of the Jeep to me.  Good job so far.  Keep up the good work and keep the pics coming.

Well jthurston I was giving your idea a shot. I poked around the shop and found a box of springs. Found some small ones, looked around and saw the spare PE parts from the build, looked over them. Some how or another I had two full sets, which came in handy being my first build using any aftermarket stuff other than seatbelts on a p51 i nearly finished over the summer. Found that I did not use the mounting brackets for a chemical bottle. I cut the bottoms off which ended up being nearly exactly the same diameter as the spring. touch of CA, attach to the end of the spring folded the lip around the spring looks great! Intended to pop a hole throw both ends to string wire through and put come compression on it. I went to do a dry fit to see how it looked on the mounting bracket and poof! It was gone. Hey, it's a spring, when it hit something it's does what? Spring! I looked all around on hands and knees, no where to be found. So if you all got a minute look under your workbench, shoot, it may have gotten a good bounce...

Ski4 your idea is next, and here's some pictures. I was playing with the other spring and was planning on posting these pictures to get you all's ideas about scale. I wasn't sure if it was to big. I don't have the tools to micro rule the height nor the actual height of the antenna base, but that’s mute now. Going with the wrapped wire technique. I was looking forward to having a actual whip antenna whippin around.

Well here’s some picts, be kind, I’m maybe 75-80% complete.

I'd love some feed backabout the seats, I'm trying to make it look like the leather is faded and worn.

Great idea Puppy! For the antenna, wrap a small diameter wire around a rod or nail to make the spring. Then use the same wire for the whip antenna, or you can use stretched sprue. This is the method I used to make the whip antenna on my recent HUMVEE. As for decals, check your computer. You may already have the right font in Microsoft Word or another such program. If not I have seen font programs for sale for not much money. Then you can just make your own decals at any time. By the way, if you're interested in your Dad's service history, talk with him, if he'll talk. I never could get my Grandpa to talk about his WWII Navy service. Now he's passed and I'll never get the chance to build a tribute model for him because I don't know his history. Enough of the sad stuff, post the pics when you get done, I know it'll look great and your Dad will love it!

A good starting point for that antenna-mount spring might be the spring out of a ball-point pen.

Sorry, I forgot you were doing it in 1/24.  Try a craft store such as Michaels or Hobby Lobby, or a stationary store for rub on lettering.  They make them in various styles and fonts.  They should work perfect for 1/24.  No idea on an antenna base in 1/24 though.  Like you said, you will probably have to scratch-build it.

Oh yeah, looking for a whip antenna, you know the one with the heavy spring as a base. Pretty sure I'm going to have to scratch make that one unless anyone has a suggestion.

Thanks, i've checked them out but they don't have 1/24 scale size and the type face doesn't look quite the same as what's in the picture. I guess if all else fails I can do a closest match if there's no other sources.

Archer Fine Transfers sells stencil letters and numbers in dry transfers.  All you have to do is cut out the individual lettering or numbers and rub them onto the part, then seal with clear cote.

I got the jeep built and ready to decail. Do you guys have a source for decails or transfers that would match the registration numbers?
