The picture, looking down the barrel and to the ocean, is pretty darn impressive!

I know... The English coast, that is Kent, where I now live, being just over 25 miles down the barrel, over that water...

So if you guys need yet more pics and info, I could always go there!

Cool link DJ!! Where on the coast is that place? I traveled all the way up the coast from Omaha beach to Belgium when I was over there but I missed that place. I would have loved to have seen that!! I don't parlevu so I can't read the website

This example (K5) was kept a secret by the French until the 1990's, I believe. It's nice that they released it for display, rather than cutting it up (like the US Army would probably have done).

Eric, this site is just north of Boulogne-sur-Mer, a mere 50 klicks from the Belgian border. The Big bunker is now a museum. Pity the gun can not be kept inside somewhere as the elements have not been too kind to it!

Super site, dj. Wish I could read some of those labels. We need to get Brian to translate the ones under the drawings (assuming it's Japanese, of course). Very, very interesting. It ought to give those Leopold guys food for a long time!!

Thanks DJ. It was late at night and dark when we went through that area. Must be why I missed it!!

I noticed the condition of the gun too. It would be nice if they'd at least give it a good coat of paint now and then. Too much rust going now from the salt air.

Yeah... Not difficult to miss it as the main highway takes you past it. From Boulogne, going North, ones needs to follow the older, coastal route. Lovely scenery and the added bonus of a couple of military museums, nice cafés, lovely beaches...

If anybody needs French translated, I can do it.

Bill and guys, If you really want to know what it says:

Open the link. Then open another IE or netscape window and go to
http://world.altavista.com/
which is a free online translation service using Babelfish.

Use the "Cut and Paste" options to cut the captions from the linked site, then paste them in the big box in the babelfish page. Change the language to "French to English" and push the translate button.

Voila (that's a French word too ) caption in English (more or less). It's good enough for you to understand and best of all, as I said, it's FREEEEEEEEEE!

Ps, you can open babelfish and paste in the Http address of a web site in the smaller box in the lower screen. Then babelfish will translate the whole web page for you, although sometimes it takes a while.

Nice site DJ.
After seeing the one at Aberdeen it was nice to see some pictures from the top because that's a big gun and I was only aloud to see it from ground level.

I went to Eben Emael this summer----WOW that gun is about the size of Fort Eben Emael---THAT THING IS HUGE. Pity I didn't know about this site until now-we could have gone there!

I love the box art for this model,there's about 6 soldiers standing around with their fingers in their ears while the one guy that is pulling the trigger cord isnt. Bet those soldiers heard that gun roaring in their ears for the rest of their lives.
