Tamiya Putty

I have never used it, is it really bad to use?

mark, you misunderstand...That putty is THE one that many of the forum readers use and recommend for modeling zimmerit on their WWII German tanks. Especially a certain Moses whose zimm work is nothing short of phenomenal. The reason I said 'infamous" is because it seems to be so danged hard to find anywhere.

It is a great putty. I still use others for filling and such, but for stuff like the zimmeritt, it's terrific. Maybe as I get braver, I;ll try it in other ways, too.

I have a Panther tank and will be using Cavalier zimmeritt. I also in time would like to use my hot knife to make zimmeritt.

Mark956 I heard that Cavalier makes some of the best zimmerit. Can you back that up from what you see?

Tigerman, I can back that up. The zimmerit in the Cavalier pack is very detailed. The rear part for my Panther tank has the storage bins and covers for the starter already molded on the zimmerit piece. All I have to do is remove the original parts.

I too can back that up on the Cav Zim. Ive used quite a few sets. Actually, thats all Ive used. You will need some putty for the edges though. And by the way, the Hobbytown USA carrys the Tamiya putty in Kennesaw Ga .Perhaps the others do. Oh, and there is a great article in the April 2001 FSM on building a Tiger and gives a great "how to" on applying the Cav Zim.

Tamiya polyester putty is the stuff!

The online hobby store I deal with had it on sale a few months back. I picked up 6 tubes of it
