Oh yes, this is a modeling forum, isn't it? Whoops!
Well, in that case, everybody please go check out my recent posting of 1/76 JS-2m diorama pix!

And here's a quick proverb for Frosty to work on:
Oni no inuma ni, sentaku.

Hope it's not too easy!

You are a talented translator. Keep up the good work!

We may have to ask FSM to start a language study forum here...

Hmm, wasn't Tanuki one of the characters in one of the Mario Brothers games?

I would love to visit Japan, but sadly, I don't have the bucks right now, I should start saving. What's the most popular beer over there, the only Japanese beer that's available here in Oklahoma is Sapporo, but it's good. We can get some nice sashami though.

Norio, I know where Shiga is, now I have a much better picture in my mind. Many thanks for the information!

So, you're coming to visit, eh, Madda? We're waiting for ya, big fella!

Norio, Konan-cho is on the other side of Shigaraki and Minokuchi, coming from my old home of Kusatsu, right?
I lived there for several years, and only made it as far as Shigaraki. We'll have to set Madda up with a nice Tanuki!

Hi madda,

My home village is in:
Konan-cho(town), Koka-gun(county).Shiga prefecture.
Koka is often called "Koga".

Is the info enough for your trip?

It is a half and one hour from KYOTO by local train. My mother still lives there. Say hello to her! Enjoy your trip to my home on your map!
Good luck!

madda,I love Samurai movies,too.
I will tell you an interesting story, I was born in a small village in central Japan, and the name of the village is "Koka"

Have you ever heard about "Ninja"? Ninja was a band of secret agent men working for Samurai goverment in the Middle Ages of Japan. Koka is "roots" for them. Of course, I have no combat skills or Samurai sword, I am just a business man making ad for department stores.

I have heard of Ninja many timesSmile [:)] That's pretty neat that you come from a historic village like that. Japan has a much longer history than America. As far as Samurai movies go, I love the blind Samurai series with Zaitochi (spelling?) I have no katana, but I am a Jiu-Jitsu student, so I do have some combat skills though not too many..Big Smile [:D]

I've read Saboro Sakai's book, and it's excellent! I have a friend who got to interview him at some legnth for the MSN Combat Flight Sim2 book. Amazing man.

Out of curiosity, what province is Koka in? I'm fairly familiar with Japan's geography, and would be interested to find out.

Norio! Your English is great! You've been holding out on me!
The Artbox folks did ask me about the Modelkasten site translation, but I've not heard from them lately. Perhaps they've forgotten about me...Disapprove [V]

I wonder if FSM would be interested in a collaboration with the fine Artbox publications? Hmmm....

Norio,
Ninja is as popular and revered in American culture as it is in Japanese culture. Ask Brian he'll tell you.
By the way I just wanted to say that one of the BEST BOOKS I've EVER read was "Samurai" by Sarabu Saki (not sure on the spelling, but I'm sure you know who I mean).
He had to have been a true Samurai from what I read. I just wish I could tell him (and his contemperaries) that as long as honor was upheld the end result does not matter. The end result was a forgone conclusion. I hope I said it right. He to me was a hero. A man who said the truth no matter what the end result. "to call a spade a spade"in the face of overwelming odds takes more resolve than any "yes" man.

I've always wanted to learn Japanese, ever since I used to watch Samurai movies as a kid. It was never offered as an available course in Texas and Oklahoma where I grew up and went to school. I took French instead, and just contented myself with learning about Nipponese history and culture.

Also, as I've not read the armour forum in a while, welcome to FSM Norio! We're glad to have you aboard. I guess I should check armour more often, so I'd not be running behind all the time. You shouldn't worry about your english either, it's excellent.

Norio, I am 100% positive that J-Hulk's Japanese is as close to perfect as a westerner could get. But as I have said in another post I am begining to think that his English now has a Japanese accent. LOL Evil [}:)] But we still love him anyways.Big Smile [:D]

It is diffcult to learn a foreign language for me. But, I think even my simple English will be OK for reporting modeling news from Japan. You will know cool news very much sooner than ever from Brian or me ---- Tamiya,Hasegawa,Modelkasten,Taska, AFV club and Academy, all the new kits from Asia.

And, you can see some info on "Armour modeling" magazine here. Sorry, only a cover page of the magazine.

This "Modelkasten" site should make English pages by J-Hulk's help, because J-Hulk's Japanese is 100% perfect though I don't know about his English.

Douitashimashite, Frosty-chan!
Learning Japanese isn't easy, for sure. I began studying in 1993 (whoa! 10 years already!!). But like any endeavor in life, if you're motivated and have a sincere passion for something, anything is possible!
I had studied Japanese for only a year at university (as my major) before heading off to Japan, but I had busted enough butt so that not only could I function satisfactorily in the language once I got here, I actually had a heck of a lot of fun! Then my time at university here in Japan took it all to the point of no return.
These days I don't do much "studying" at all. I pick up new words and phrases, learn idioms, and discover the all-important cultural context of the language by reading books, newspapers, and magazines, watching TV, using the language all day at work, and of course learning from all my great friends here in Japan (like Norio! He is a GREAT sensei! For Japanese, modeling, and life!). A very major influence, of course, is the future Mrs. Hulk!
So everyone here at FSM should start studying Japanese, in order to read all the articles I plan to publish in Armour Modelling and other Japanese publications!
Heck, you already need it to read Norio's monthly column in AM!

Good luck, Frosty-chan!
