Fujimi 1/76 JS-2m pix
Posted by J-Hulk on Tuesday, October 21, 2003 8:13 AM
Hi, folks!Smile [:)]

Here's some pix of Fujimi's fine 1/76 JS-2m I built last year, in my first attempt at a diorama in over twenty years! Needless to say, my gardening skills are lacking...
Along for the ride is Fujimi's 1/76 Pzr III turret, my first attempt at trying to represent a burned-out bit of wrecked armor.

As always, your comments and criticisms are welcome!
Here are the pix:

Also, I'm still experimenting with my new digital camera, so if any of ya'll have any pointers concerning these pix, please share 'em!

You're too hard on yourself, Brian. The 'garden' looks real and the model too. I think you should do more small scale stuff... You're good at it. Would you like some slightly more esoteric, 1/76 Japanese stuff? If so, look at SMA's website (in my profile) and choose one, I'll send it to you!

Thanks, Deej!
I don't think I'm being too hard on myself, just being realistic!

Cool website, by the way. Can't believe I haven't checked it out before now!
I'd have to say my favorite is Foghorn Leghorn. Is that a scratch, or a conversion from the Aurora Godzilla? Big Smile [:D]

Needs updating badly! Spending too much time on this website! I sculpted the bloody chicken for my sis-in-law who promptly destroyed it... People have no idea, I tell you!

Pishposh on the notion that the foliage doesn't look good. All modelling foliage has to do is create an impression (let's admit it -- the goal of all scale modeling is merely to do that), and I think your diorama does a fine job. Looks good indeed. The only thing missing is a head peeping out over the hatch. Oh wait, it's there. Ok, so it's perfect! Smile [:)]

The tracks look great. How did you do it? I doubt they are straight OOB.

The photographs are nice too. I've tried, but I still have no clue how to take a picture of a kit that doesn't look like the tank is painted white, or black, depending on whether I used the flash or not. Tongue [:P]

Thanks for the kind words, folks!Smile [:)]

Larry, the trax are in fact OOB. They are excellent! The sag's built into the link-n-length construction, and the detail is phenomenal. Actually, the whole model is pretty much OOB, aside from the brass rod grab handles, string tow cable, and one scratchbuilt hammer. A drilled-out machine gun and headlight, plus the removal of the front left fender and some denting on the fuel tanks are all the extra action there is. This kit rocks OOB!

Thanks for sharing.

My God! I must buy ten immediately! And that's not much of an exaggeration -- I wargame in 1/72nd scale.

Excellent! The track sag looks great, and the build is clean with just enough weathering so it's not overstated.

I am curious: What did you use for your base material? It really looks good...I'm looking for celluclay alternatives.

Thanks, fellas!Smile [:)]
Gip, the base is one entire pack of Fando. Just the regular type, if I remember correctly. In the red package. I think Fando makes several different types of sculpting materials these days.
The only thing that bugs me about it is the cracking you get as it dries. Supposedly, if you knead it properly with a little water, it won't crack. Evidently I employed improper kneading. Luckily, cracks mostly occurred around the edges.
To me, it looks like a slab of elephant hide!

One problem I had is that I couldn't get it as flat (as in, not shiny) as I'd like. Tried all the tricks, but it still maintained a leathery sheen.
I just tell myself it must've rained recently, and the road's still a little wet...Big Smile [:D]

Brian,

Looks great to me. Amazing detail for a braille scale. Good job. That sure is one honk'en big gun!

Great work Brian. For a 1/76 kit it really is cool. I also like your base.

Don't see nothing wrong or bad on this one, J-hulk. In fact...IT'S GREAT!

Now it's giving me crazy ideas for my 1/35 JS-2m.

Dwight, do you have the Dragon kit? I do, too.
Didn't Italeri have one, too? Same kit?

Brian-sama:
"Oni no inuma ni, sentaku!"
my translation:
"while the demon is busy elsewhere, do your washing (laundry?)"
or, "pick the right time to do your work"
this one was hard !!!
and sorry to be off-thread, but i forgot where this proverb was originally.
my apologies, sensei, and thanx again !

Hi frosty san,
Your translation is great!
We often add a word "inochi" to this proverb.
"Oni no inuma ni, inochi no sentaku!"
"inochi" means "life"

I found a proverb in English, it is same meaning, isn't it?
"When the cat's away, the mice will play"

Looks great Brian. Don't know how I overlooked the post though. I have yet to try anything small scale but am always impressed at the detail that some can get out of something that small.

Thanks, Eric! I'm diggin' the new camera!

Norio, my box-stock, one-star friend! Great job with the proverb. Frosty, you nailed the direct translation, but as with many phrases, there are a lot of cultural translations as well! Proverbs and jokes fall into this category. You should see the subtitles for an Austin Powers movie!
I learned something, too: inochi no sentaku. I had not heard that proverb with that part before! I suppose "playing" can be considered washing away the dirt of everyday life and living. A great proverb!
This may be Sign - Off Topic!! [#offtopic], but it's MY topic, so I reckon it's OK!Wink [;)]Big Smile [:D]

LQ2, thanks for your kind words, but all kudos has to go to this great Fujimi kit! Other than what I outlined in an earlier post, this baby's pretty much box-stock. I really wish Fujimi would put out more armor like this!
