Okay,

I'm most certainly feeling a little behind on my modeling skills here! WOW What AWESOME WORK!!Tongue [:P] Yes, inlcuding your JSII!Big Smile [:D]
I had to giggle at the Hisaya Takemura dio depicting the French H35 (PzKpfw 35(F)?????) with the German TC and French women flocking the German soldiers.... I think there was only one kind of French woman who really went after the German soldiers! LOL Spies..... of course.Wink [;)]

Anyhoo, super, super work! Shows what a lot of patience can do!

Oh yeah, Kaz is an amazing guy! His stuff is in Armour Modelling all the time. I have some beautiful closeups of that diorama that he sent me while building it. I'll ask him if it's OK to post a few. Ya gotta see the detail on the building! Unbelievable.

A whole bunch of really amazing work ther for sure. My feelings were a little bit hurt to read that many Japanese modelers don't like Europeans to do Samurai subjects. I'll get over it though. You know, a Dutch/English ships navigator became Samurai a long while back. Bushido is in the person, not the race.

Back to the issue at hand, your JS-2 looked great, that diorama with the wind-blown grass really wiped me out. Such attention to detail, I'm really amazed. Keep posting this kind of thing if at all possible. I also really liked the English translations!!

Glad ya'll like the stuff! Smile [:)]
Madda, looking at the Japanese text, it doesn't mean they don't like Europeans painting Samurai figures (actually, it doesn't mention Europeans at all in the text!), but it is just trying to express the old adage "nobody knows a subject quite like the subject itself," and was primarily talking about capturing the uniform colors, patterns and such, not so much the philosophy of "bushido."

I'm not sure who translated the Japanese into English (I think Mr. Yoshida did it himself, but I'm not sure!), but it's all quite good. However, sometimes subtle nuances can get lost, or even mistakenly turned around, and I think that's just what happened here. Gosh knows we all love a good figure, no matter who does it!Big Smile [:D]

Norio, I'm really looking forward to seeing your pix, too! I think you changed the diorama since I saw it last May.
I'm sure all the folks here are gonna love it!

Hi, Tim!

I am not "Master", just an ordinary modeler. This is very first time to show my work on the magazine though I have monthly column on it. I am so excited because AM mag is very popular among Japanese military modelers, yes! same as FSM here. I am so lucky! Let me show my dio here in next month, wait a moment, please!

I'd like to tell you about my column on Armor Modeling mag, because I think you will be interested in the content. It is something like " a daily life of an old amateur modeler in Osaka" ,.

Why Osaka is so special?
Of course "Osaka" is just a name of city, but "Osaka" has some special meaning to Japanese. Mumm,,, my English is too simple to tell you details. Help me,J-Hulk!!

Thanks, fellas!
Didja see my post of JS-2 pix a coupla days back?

Don't let Norio fool you: he is indeed a master!
And like all true masters, he's modest, too!

Osaka...A great city, with great traditions, which does hold a special place in the hearts of all Japanese (and some foreigners, too!).

It's hard to describe precisely, but Osaka and the Kansai area has a special atmosphere and attitude, considered to be very friendly, warm, and outgoing. Folks here like to have fun. The pace is slower compared to other large Japanese cities. Having spent two years living in Tokyo and 8 years in Osaka, I'd certainly vouch for that. I had a chance to return to Osaka, and I jumped at it! It's a great place.

How's that sound, Norio?

Ah, well, okay, my mistake then. It seems maybe I took the text a little too personally with no reguard to the vagaries of translation. I'm glad everything's okay after allBig Smile [:D]Bow [bow]

The work there was all truly excellent, once again, I'm overly impressed!

Hi, Madda!Big Smile [:D]
No, no, you interpreted the English just fine! The way it was worded certainly sounded as you took it, no doubt.

Makes you wonder how much of the trouble we have in the world today is due to simple little mistranslations of the nuances of words and prases, eh? Yikes!!!

These models are really great, ain't they?
So know ya'll know what kinda stuff I get to compare my meager efforts to on a daily basis! I'm surrounded by masters. And I'm very, very thankful for the experience. Bow [bow]

Norio, Modesty aside I believe J-Hulk and that you are a master. It's not a crime to admit it Sir (an honorific). I was just trying to honor your reputation (which procedes you). I just want to see some of your great work.

I have hopes that J-Hulk will translate your monthly AM column onto this forum for your friends that do not have access to the AM mag and/or are not smart enought to learn the Japanese language.

As for Osaka. The way Brian has made it sound so great, that my wife has decided that we WILL be visiting one year (it could be a while), but we WILL visit your great city. It's just a matter of time and money (it always seems to boil down to that, doesn't it).

Knowing you and Brian has been such a joy for me, I have learned so much that I feel a lot smaller, not easy at 6'5" (same as J-Hulk) and just over 350 lbs (more than J-Hulk), but the little guys ALWAYS seem to think they are the biggest. Hi,Tim the little guy!

Osaka is always waiting for you with the best food, the best hobby shop and the best hospitality in Japan. J-Hulk and I will show you 100% of Osaka.

First, we have to find a big bed for you in Osaka.

I don't think I've ever stayed in a hotel here with a bed long enough...the feet are always poking out! Sigh [sigh]
350 pounds! (155 kilos) I have a buddy who weighs 350, but he's a good foot shorter than me, so you can imagine he's a big li'l fella!

Tim, I'm sure you'd love it here! When you're ready, come on over.

Perhaps we should arrange an "FSM In Japan" package tour, where we could hit all the great hobby shops, visit Tamiya, Hasegawa, and the rest, and of course see all the beautiful sights Japan has to offer.
I think May would be nice, what with the Shizuoka Hobby Show on and all...beautiful weather that time of year...it's worth thinking about!

Brian I haven't slept in any bed since I was 12 years old that my feet don't stick out the end. Including my own. The thing of it is my wife is only 5'1" tall. This photo shows our height difference. After 23 years we hardly notice it anymore.

I hope I am not the only person who smiled at the irony of that. I mean, look at these models. They are 99% European! So, should we feel "funny" about that? Tongue [:P] I get a chuckle out of the Japanese sometimes (I work at a Japanese bank in NY, so I know many Japanese).

Anyway, is that Yuuji Sakai that is mentioned the same guy who does the limited-edition Gojira sculptures -- the guy who works for Toho Studios? If so, I have a few of his pieces, and they are wonderful.

I was intrigued by that LWS model too. Did the Germans actually put that thing into production?

Tim, then you're all set!

Larry, funny, they thought the same thing when they had the Sherman contest here! They thought I should really be able pull off an authentic, American-taste Sherman (what, with being American and all!). I think they were actually quite disappointed when I did the JGSDF version...Wink [;)]

Nope, not the same Yuuji Sakai! That's the first thing I joked with about when I met him: "Dude, your kaijus rock!" He got the reference immediately.
Yup, I have a ton of the other Mr. Sakai's kits, and they do indeed rock!
Larry, have you seen my "Godzilla, Gamera, and Ultraman" thread over at the Figures forum? haven't been there in a while myself, so I can't recall if you've posted there or not.

I too was taken by the LWS, and found that it did in fact exist! Was to be used in the invasion of England. When that didn't happen, they just used 'em here and there.
Someone here on the forums showed me a good site about that...now, who was that???

You got your tugboat in my tank!"

"YOU got your tank in MY tugboat!"

(That may be a joke only Americans will understand. Sorry.)

Thanks for the links, Caveman. Weird, you don't think of "Germans" and "Amphibious" in the same sentence.

Now that there's a kit for this thing, maybe someone will make a good kit for an early-war Sherman. Tongue [:P]

Land-Wasser-Schlepper, manufactured by Reeses? Funny!
I thought it looked liked a fully tracked houseboat!
