Hi Nick. I know that it looked so small. The FSM webpage has been upgraded somehow making pictures looked smaller. I used to post pictures of the same size before and they consume the entire page that you have to actually do vertical and horizontal scrolling. I'll try to see if I can do something about it.

Thanks.

Ron, thanks for the nice info.

Build, Muzzleflash, thanks too.

Nice Job Dwight! There are so many variations in the 'whiteness' of winter camo on US WWII Vehciles, since the whitewash used was water soluable (so the white washed off easiy when the world greened up again .. if the tank lasted that long). I've heard of this stuff being mixed of water and chalk with whey added to it, old white German house paint, etc. Anything they could get their hands on and was white would be used (including bed linen and such as we all know). So Great Job! Keep it up.

Ron.

erush: Thanks. Well, it's my first winter camo so I don't know what to expect really. I just thought that it didn't come out well and I am very happy that you find it OK.

Beautiful Dwight, absolutely beautiful job!!!! Big Smile [:D] The streaked effect looks great, like it's starting to wear off from the weather. Don't be hard on yourself at all!!

Sherm: I think I can sleep now. Afterall, if you think it is OK then it is probably OK. Thanks.

Lizardqing2 (I hope you don't mind me calling you by your forum name, there are a lot of Chris here now so I should be very clear): I am glad you found it OK. The rope thing is a yarn from my wife's sewing/cross-stitch box. It's DMC thread if I am not mistaken. It is actually a bit oversized but I have no other choice.

Thanks for the comments guys.

Dwight, great job. The whitewash looks wonderful, I am going to have to attemt it myself one day. Thought about doing it to my last sherman but it had to go out the door to brother before I got the chance. Guess I'll just have to do another one. What did you use for your rope for the tie down? It looks great also and I did nothing but scratch my head trying to come up with something that would look the right size.

Oh Dwight ... what have you gone and done.
Look at this thing, absolutely filthy !!!
And what's with this white stuff all over it !!
Spill your white-out from your engineering documents or what??
What are we going to do with you?

Dwight, Dwight, Dwight ....... this beast looks GREAT !!!
You are way too hard on yourself my friend. You have really captured the "sloppy" look of the whitewash camo. Super work as always !!!

Thanks for sharing with us, keep up the great work.

Happy Modelling and God Bless Robert

Thanks for the tip Pete. I am actually planning a street dio (some village in the Ardennes - St. Vith, Bastogne or Foy). I have some ideas but nothing final yet.

Thanks Erock, I just felt bad that it came out so dirty after being so prestine during the initial stages of the building process. I probably need to weather it some more or add some mud, ice or whatever to blend with the scene of the dio.

Excellent job Dwight!

I like how the winter effect came out and how it blends with the mud & dirt on the sides.

I think we are all a bit critical on ourselves, when it comes to weathering a piece. We don't want to mess anything up but, we must remember that dirt, dust, mud, crud and filth are what good combat armor pieces are about Approve [^]

Looks quite good so far Dwight. To me it looks representative of a partly worn camo job, where you can see the places where it was put on a little heavier than others.

Usually the winter camo was hurriedly put on as the crew didn't want to spend all day at chores, particularly when it was really cold Big Smile [:D]. The whitewash was often put on with straw brooms, or rags tied to branches as this was quicker. The longer broom handle made it easier and kept the stuff off the crew clothing; The crew often just poured whitewash in patches on the vehicle and swept it around a bit.

I have never attempted a winter camo on an Allied vehicle, but I've done a couple of German vehicles (the old ESCI Demag and the old Tamiya Sdkfz 7/1with the Quad 20mm flak). After doing them I decided that I hate modelling snow Dead [xx(].

Not sure of the dio you intend, but if you are going to do even a light sprinkling of snow , you might consider a bit of sticky mud, grass, etc on the running gear and hull. Tanks don't stay on tarmac, and even frozen ground gets chewed up by the weight of these guys. Also in heavy snow, the compacted ice sometimes sticks to the running gear an side of the tracks (particularly cleats), usually where it has been heaved up onto non-moving parts whilst the vehicle was moving.

I have seen real snow for about 5 minutes of my life (I'm 42!) and I guess there wouldn't be much where you live eitherWink [;)]. My ideas had to come from looking at my reference books. Guess we might be able to ask Shermie, Captain Caveman or some of the other Northern Hemisphere guys for a little lesson on what an icy winter really looks likeBig Smile [:D]

Thanks for the good comments (so far) guys. I am just surprised about the new format of the forum page. It think it was adjusted and the pics are quite smaller now. Gotta take note of this for my next pic post.

Excellent, Dwight!Big Smile [:D]
I really like the streaked effects of the whitewash as it has run down the sides of the vehicle.
Great job!

My M4A3 105...
Posted by Dwight Ta-ala on Sunday, October 26, 2003 7:19 PM
Well here it is. I finally had the courage to post the pics of my M4A3 105. I wanted to depict it in a winter camo hastily done by crew on the field. I assumed that they did not use airbrushes but just ordinary paint brushes applying paint hurriedly and unevenly on the tank leaving some tight spots unpainted. I have probably over-weathered it.Disapprove [V]

I am still doing the other figures and add-on stuff.

This is my first winter camo job and I am still doing the winter dio for this one.
