I think I have it figured out. After dry fitting the hull I noticed that even after it is glued , the window holes can still be gotten to with a little extra work of coarse. So I went ahead and assembled the turret and hull and is now ready to get some paint on it. Once assembled this is one impressive looking machine, and thus far a really great build. Don't think I have had to do any work to get it to fit, except the barrel but that was'nt the kits fault. Thanks for help guys. I'm sure I'll have something else to ask before this is done though.

Thanks Peter, I saw something that sounds sorta like that today. I think it was called easy tack or something like that.

LQ

Sometimes periscope/vision blocks are that small or are recessed and difficult to tape. For these I usually paint inside where they are to be affixed, then glue the scope/block in place. Then I assemble the rest of the turret and when ready to paint I use little blobs of Blu-Tack to mask off the scope/blocks.

The Blu-Tack is soft, so you can push it around to get an even cover and it comes off easy later. If a little bit gets stuck, just make a larger blob and press and swipe it against the bit that is stuck. This stuff sticks to itself and usually will clean off residue after a few swipes.

Hope this helps

Thanks Ron. You are right about his being an excellent kit. The more it goes together the greater it looks. I'll try masking the windows, be a bit of a challenge as small as they are. For the commo wire reel , it would probally look better with some kind of small wire wrapped around I would say. Thanks again , always like learning something.

Excellent kit. The gun fire simulator is called a Hoffman Device and is used for training. Big 9-barrel thing that pops a big cap when the main gun is fired in training. That way everyone can see where the tank has "fired" from. Only used in during actual maneuver training.

The reel is for commo wire. When tanks stop in a defensive position or laager up for the night, each tank can run this wire to the next and form a "hot loop". This means they can talk to one another without the use of a radio just using their intercom system.

I'd try to mask the pieces after assembly using low tack masking tape.

I did'nt think it would take to long to come up another couple of questions. Actually a couple are just about items on it and one how to go about it. First off, there is a reel on the back of the turret, just wondering what this for and if it is something that might be able add something to. Next is exactly what is a gun-fire simulator, is it something only attached for training as I think it would be.
Finally for now, I am getting about to the point to start painting. This piece has alot of small windows all over the turret that get attached from the inside. In this case is it easier to paint the turret pieces while they are still apart or put it all together and somehow try to mask the window parts. When I started i was wanting to to put as much together before painting until I ran into these little bumps in the road.
Thanks for any input , one of these days I'm going to learn enough about these things to offer some myself.
If it helps the kit is a Tamiya 1/35 Leopard 2 A5.
