seems everyone is doing a leopard !

your model looks really nice and convincing, especially the mud and dust on the back of the tank

i'm currently doing a Leopard AS1,but messed up the kit, so i gotta get a new one Black Eye [B)]

they may still have Leopard 2A4, as australia is considering getting the Leopard 2A4 to replace the Leopard AS1 ... unless they manufacture new ones for the ADF i'm not totally sure

they are also considering the Challenger 2 and the Abram

but yeah, great model Cool [8D]

I didn't know Trumpeter put out a Leopard!

News to me too ....

Idle curiosity -- Do the Germans still have 2A4's in the inventory, or have they upgraded them all to 2A5's? I actually prefer the boxy look of the 2A4 turret.

Anyhoo, good buildup -- hope the next one is easier!

Tigerman,

I thought the same thing. I actually went out and bought two more Leopards. Revell's 1A4 and Italeri' 1A4 (Cookie Sewell likes Italeri's) I'm a changed person. I don't like modern better but - Don't knock it, til you tried it .Big Smile [:D]

Obiwan,

The lights just are painted silver w/ black wash over them ( the magic of photography). As far as the barrel goes which seem the right side up one or the one that I posted first. Only kidding, but yeah, alot of scraping, putty and sanding was needed here. Still needs a little more but you can't see it in these pictures

http://www.soundamerica.com/sounds/movies/S-T/Star_Wars/disturb.wav

Good luck with yours

wow really nice...you said u built it oob so does that mean the lenses for the
head lights came seperately and clear as well?
on the tamiya one they are seperate and in green plastic.
it must have been hell to hide the seam on the barrel as well....

Have to admit I feel like Bill, not much for modern, then I see work like yours and gets a person to thinking. Fine job Jim, looks great. The only modern I have is an Abrams and I hope to get that going after the Panther build. Keep em rolling.

Thanks J-Hulk,

It's the one with the tubes for river fording. (wasn't going to put those things on) It had the ability to be motorized - had gears - no motor. It could be a re-box of another kit. It came without a box and there was no company name on the instruction sheet. I tracked down one similiar somewhere. I got what I paid for.

Ron P

Thanks as well. I certainly don't get as much of a chance as you to see this stuff up close & personal as you do.

BTW - You hit the nail on the head - they were aftermarket stretched sprues - so I didn't actually do them myself.

NICE job!! It looks great. What, all Leopards aren't spotted??? Well, I'm going to cancel my trip to Germany now!Wink [;)] That NATO color scheme looks good on it doesn't it? You reminded me why I took my camera along last weekend... wanted some camo photos of our Paladin.... didn't have time to take them thoughDisapprove [V]! ... so the camera never went to the field with me. (which is a first).

Are you sure those aren't stretches sprue after market tracks with PE details?Big Smile [:D]

Dwight - thanks for the comments.
I saw some descent nato camo at West Point a little while back, so I would have changed it a little.

My only advise to any one doing camo - Think - "Ameoba" - you know those squshy little creatures - have no bones and kind of flow everywhere.

Very nice work, Build. You are making me sorry for not doing the NATO camo on my M1.
You did a fine job on the camo.

It is nice you guys didn't rag on me about the barrel. I'm sure you'll wait for a more opurtune time to do that. I all have to say is the following

M-1 and Brit,

Thanks, I definetly thought of turning the pictures upside down instead.

I think the gun could be right, but the rest of the tank is upside down?

Sorry, bad English humour. I'll save my jokes for when I'm brave enough to post my first picture!
I think it's great.

Thank you for the replies, - it is appreciated

Caveman - thanks again for pointing that out - I'm glad I fixed it early enough

Sherm - you're right - alittle adversity is good now and then. And it's no big deal if you have enough putty on hand. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining. ( well maybe wining a little) I'm just sharing the experience so somebody else can benefit by it.

Frosty and Wipw - I'm hooked - I actually bought Revell's Leopard 1A4 - Bill, I felt the same way. I liked the way you can weather all those nice raised panels.

Mark956 - sorry, no contests - I just do it for fun

DJ - thanks for the comments and tip. I'm not going to repost for that one.

Demono, Erock, lizardqing, and History thanks for your comments

thanks again - Jim

Looks great Jim. Iam about to start the nato scheme on my A5. Hopefully it turns out like yours did. Never tried camo before.

Bill- The Tamiya A5 is a great kit. Not only does it look good but the fit is great. I have found no faults but my own so far with mine.

Nice one Jim...! Just one think you can add: You see those little rectangles at the bottom of the side skirts..? (2 of them on each side). They are supposed to be holes in the 'skirt'. Either use a minidril and knifes to 'cut them out' or paint them in flat black to ive the impresion of 'emptiness'.

Superb camouflasge and great weathering.

Keep up the good work.

nice one, build22 !
modern armor is just so cool! i just like the size, speed, firepower and (last but not least) crew survivabilty of afvs like abrams, challenger, leopard and merkava, not to mention the 'post-apocalyptic sportscar' vibe many of them have. i have a special fondness for that low rear 3/4 view in pix of afvs like in ur 3rd pic because it really makes them look so tough... and i'd rather not be looking down the barrel of a 120mm gun !!!Wink [;)]
and ur NATO camo looks top-notch.... outstanding ! i hope i can do as good a job on my 1/72 hasegawa Leopard 2 !

Good job, Jim. Some of Trumpeter's kits can be a real bear. I like the camo, personally. Gun looks fine now. Thanks for sharing the pics!

I'll completely stay away from the gun .... I promise.

Looks great Jim ..... nice subtle weathering. Sometimes we all need a kit that's a little "tough" to make us work at it. You've done an excellent job of getting over these hurtles.

Thanks for sharing. Approve [^]

You're right Caveman ! I guess that ruins all my creditability in the accuracy department

I'm going to fix it and re-post

All set now. Thanks Caveman for the "heads-up"
