                        Hi folks,

                        Trying to get back into the hobby, and I'm working on a 1/24th Indy car model I picked up cheap.  The rubber tires have an obvious ridge around the center of the tread from molding, and I'm struggling to remove it all.  I'm working to sand it off against a piece of about 200 girt sandpaper on  flat surface.  And since the tread of real tires aren't bright and shiny anyway this probably gives them a more realistic appearance.  But it seems to be taking forever!  Any suggestions?

                        Hey "Head"

                        I find a small 1/4 inch drive socket (and drive adapter) that will fit snuggly inside of the tire. Then I chuck the socket in a drill and spin the tire against the sandpaper taped to my work area. It is the same as what you are doing, but does not take nearly as long. Those lines will disappear pretty quick without much elbow grease.

                        I sand them by hand, but I use 320 grit paper or an emery board.  I've run across a few truly flashed up tires.  I trim those with my hobby knife, then sand.

                        Thanks for the tip!  I tried this on one tire and it worked pretty well.  Of course, the battery on my cordless was dead, and the chuck on my old corded drill has a nasty wobble... time to replace that chuck I guess Whistling [:-^]

                        Go pick up some foam sanding blocks from someplace like Home Depot or a Miller paint store. These will conform a little as well as bend nicly when you squeeze them from the side.

                        i use 120 grit then wetsand with 800 and wash them in soap and water after
