New Find. GREAT. Progress PICS!
Posted by fantacmet on Sunday, September 21, 2008 10:01 PM

So I was at the thrift store today and what do I see?  A nice beat up little model box.  I opened it up, and it's 100% complete except for decals.  WOOHOO.

Monograms 1969 Rampage Camaro!  May not be up to today's standards but the engraving is really nice if a bit oversized in spots.  Aside from parts being cut off the sprues, and the interior tub being painted black(nicely too I might add), no work has been done to it.

I'm going to start working on this one tonight.  See what kind of detail I can add to it.  At least Plug wires and perhaps braided radiator hoses as well.  Maybe if I'm lucky I can get some fuel lines going.

Ok here is current progress.  There isn't much progress so far because I don't have all the parts together right now in order to spray the aluminum metalizer on the parts that need it.  I'll be spraying parts for 2 kits so I can get the smelly part done in one shot.

I have decided to do this car pro-touring style in stance and configuration.

I have added fuel line to the engine, and have prepped the chassis for fuel and brake lines.  I have the brake line splitters drilled and lines router to them, and ready for installation as soon as the chassis is painted.  The wheels are from an Aoshima Toyota Celsior VIP car, for their uniqueness and their pro touring look.  I have lowered the stance quite a bit in the front and rear.  I am maintaining the traction bars for the rear suspension.  I will be attempting to scratchbuild a more modern looking air cleaner then the one that came in the kit.  The brake disks I will be using come from the Toyota Supra F&F kit.  I am considering using the NOS bottle that came with it as well, but if I do that I will need to locate a NOS brand bottle decal.  I will be replicating a turn signal stalk, as well as replacing the stock automatic style shifter with a manual style shifter to match the manual transmission.  Of course BMF will be applied to the window moldings and perhaps to the wheel moldings as well as the lower chrome strip that should be there on the body.  The chrome on the grill is rather worn in most spots, and I cannot afford to send it out to chrome tech, so I will be painting it black, which will fit within the pro touring look better.  With the exception of the chrome headlight buckets which I will be masking off.  I may or may not be highlighting the grill bars with silver, but I will be detailing the Z/28 emblem on the grill.  ALL other emblems have been removed and will not be replaced with either photoetched or decals, this will be a badge delete car.  The paint on the body is not done so please no comments about how it's flat and unpolished.  When it's done I plan to have it very highly polished.  I am considering a demarcation line between the two colors such as silver.

Comments or suggestions on details to add and such are appreciated.
