Wingform, Yah, the lettering is kind of a specialty I developed. When I was a kid I was at the Dells (Wis.) Motor Speedway just about every Saturday with the Ambulance Service which I later ran when I became an EMT. Up to 1971, the late model stocks were a lot like the Buick in the picture, most were Chevelles but there were lots of Fairlanes and Torinos too of all years, even Galaxies and Impalas, some Mercuries and etc. Mopars unfortunately were scarce, though the late Larry Detjens (uncle of Scott and Chris Wimmer) had a notable and exceedingly beautiful one done in Plum Crazy, White and Petty blue with lace effects. He was my hero and won several track championships after the switch to the pony cars into the 70's with a Hemi Challenger. These were the days of Dick Trickle's Mustangs, Tom Reffner and Ed Howe's Javelins and just about everbodies' Camaros including Joe Shear, Dave Watson, Jim Back, Marv Marzofka, etc. The Illinois, or Rockford type cars were usually covered with a seemingly very artistic type of lettering, which was chiseled, drop shadowed, filled with fancy distinctive script and nearly every type of fancy graphic trick like pinstripes, flames, starbursts and the like you could think of. I determined myself to create replicas and phantoms in the styles of these cars when I was about 11 or 12, and now a mere 36 years or so later I've gotten pretty good at it I guess.
Anyway, I would suggest that you go to the website for Bullring Graphics. It is a veritable gallery of everything I think you would like, 60's and 70's mostly but even some modern short track type cars. They carry decal sheets for them all, the selection is large and the photos inspirational. The sheets are I think up in the 10 dollar range but top notch. BSR Replicas and Finishes who also have a very good web site carry vintage decals in the Yesterdays and Ace lines you can click on, which are more Nascarish in character, ie Fireball Roberts' Pink Ford Galaxie, Paul Goldsmiths Nichels Engineering 66 Hemi Sattelite, numerous Wendell Scott sheets and etc. What's really good about this site is they carry numerous old style 60's and 70's type conversion parts like Holman Moody wheels of various sizes, entire vintage Roll Cage kits, window nets, and etc. Some of these, if you click on the decal, appear in a sort of package with the proper model to convert for that car and the right wheels and accessories so you know what to order all at once for that particular car. Both these sites have lots of reference pictures. I also ran accross a Fotki site belonging to "El Camino Billy" that you can Google. You won't believe the Nascar and Usac Stock reference photos, by year, from the 50's to the present. Really, this one is a must see.
Recently, in addition to the AMT and MPC rereleases of Modified Stocker, super stock and even Nascar Kits I mentioned to you before, Chuck Poi is an extremely famous 60's type Nascar Modeler who has a small company called Nostalgia Race Models and you can Google this site. He too carries many resin conversion parts which are pretty reasonable, like correct wheels and period correct tires (Firestones as well as Goodyears) stripped down interiors that save you the work of removing or boxing in seats as well as chassis, accessories like racing seats, fire extinguishers, headlight covers, racing dashes, and some bodies you'll never find anywhere else though they do run about $40 apiece. He also gives you building tips and how to use them. Worth checking out.
Whew, that was a lot. Hope I didn't bore you. But I love this stuff and love seeing it built too, especially if you like it and have fun doing it. Talk to you more soon. God Bless.
