Disassembly
Posted by ga.retread on Sunday, September 28, 2008 7:09 PM

Does anyone know of a good way to disassemble previously glued together parts?

A friend gave me a Revell '58 Impala that he had started a long time ago. He got as far as painting the interior and installing the dash. I would like to remove the dash with as little damage as possible, and then repaint everything and finish the build.

Any and all suggestions are welcome. Thank you in advance.

I've heared that throwing your model in the freezer for a few hours can weaken the glue but mainly you will have to just cut along the seams with an Xacto and try not to kill your parts. If it was cemented together with tube glue, you might be able to put a little bit of glue on there to weaken the joint. Just don't use too much or you will have a melted dashboard on your hands. All of these suggestions could possibily damage your model so see if anyone else posts an answer that may be better. Have fun at you bench!
