A 72' Pontiac GTO to a 71' T-37 LeMans!!

First I must tell you a shot[Edit] Long story on why this build was first started. Some years ago I was working on my first trucking job and I had to step down from my driving duties for some days. Any way wile working in one of the lumber yeard I was befriended by a young man there, that would sit with me at meal time when I would pull out one of my modeling projects to work on. So some days later he came to me with a sad story about his mom and that she had passed and besides all the photos of her and her car that he had he wanted a model of her first car that the famliy still has, but the car is in the hands of one of the othere sons so he wanted a model of the car next to a photo of his mom. I told him I'll do it at a low cost he said how low 25 he said that's cool. Then told him I don't have a lot of time as I'm moving to a new job site soon so I must do this fast for you. "OK" That made me feel like I'm doing a good thing here or so I thought.

On the first day I started the project I came to work with this model box to show him what kit that I will be using to start with.

On 2 or 3 days in to the build I asked him can you show me a photo of your moms car so I can get the color just right, some times our memories get a bit fuzzy after a time and a photo will help out a lot. He agreed and day after day I asked do have the photo (Noting) "I'll get it tomorrow" every day is what I was getting from him. So one day I asked Question [?] is it that you don't like the price an it's to high or you no longer wanting it. just tell me man I'm not mad at you guy. "Juat lay it on the line"

[Yes] he said I have a verey boss wife and she didn't think it was worth the 25.00 and I only went that cheap after the story. Most of my private builds go for 30 and more. Any way I only had 2 weeks left till I had to leave.

"Here's the killer for you" He comes to me on the last week of the build and tells me "hay man" just GIVE me the car and my brother in Texas that likes to build models an go's to shows can finish it. I said in a loud voice "WHAT" You mean to tell me all this time there's some one in your family that could have done this and I could have use my lunches to eat and not work on this project not to minchin the girls I passed up to do this for you. You drop this on me now. An GIVE you the car I dont think so we came to an price on it man all this work and just give it to you 25. bucks and it's your! He told me man just tell me were did you get the kit as my bro can't find the kit there. I Laugh [(-D] and told him Hobby Lobby I know some of you are saying I should not have told him that but here's the twist to that I got off before him and I know a lot of people at that time that worked there so I knew that there was only one left on the shelf and it was on sale 5 bucks I got it and still have it so now I have the kit I started on and one un tuched. Ha Ha Ha I get the last Laugh [(-D] or so I thought lately I have hooked up with a guy from texas that likes to building model and I can't help but think could this guy be that guys bro? nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnOT this guy only builds Military models good for me.

OK and now after a long story a photo of that same type of car like the guys moms car and a look at the kit that started every thing. Then some shots of my work on the car. As you can see I changed a 72' Pontiac GTO to a 71' Pontiac T-37 LeMans. [This build started back 2 years a go] An It will be my frist kit that I will start on after I have bean working only on militry models all this time.

You could say or ask am I going to get it done and yes I am right here for you all to see. One thing I'm going to use the big wheels and I'm adding two white strips on the hood and trunk., to give it a little more sporty look. The color of the car body and the white roof will be just like the my photo. I don't know if I'm going to build the motor clean or used yet.

messed up story, but your doing good so far on the build I owend a 70 Le Mans in high school I made look like a GTO,changed the hood for one with scoops and a tach changed the nose to an endra? dont rember ifits endra or endro this was over 20 years ago put in buckets and console and rebuilt the tranny with heavy duty clutches and shift kit. loved that car. After that my next project was a 73 javelin (stock) and a 72 chevt chyenne p/u with a 68 327 that was my 5.0 mustang eater, the javelin had a 401 in it. geeze the good ole days. Now I drive a plain jane 97 Tahoe lol

I like how you modified the hood instead of going resin looks good so far !

John, I believe the term you are searching for is Endura , and hey look at the positive side - at  least you are not driving a Dodge Caravan !

it looks good so far White_R34, looking forward to seeing what you make of it.

And that is one terrible story, it always sucks when you're screwed over like that, but at least they didn't get hold of the model before they paid you.

Your right I never let any one have or hold any model pinding payment. Thats why I all was buy the model and I will not build on any model that some one brings me. an I have had guys try that but I would alwas go out and get or order the same kit, even if it cost a lot. Some time people think they can rip you off by buying the kit themselves. Hint hint you start the work they say I done want you to finish it just at the paint stage. An some younger modelers fall into that trap and lose out on there time and materials.

But I'm going to get it done. I must point out that the Testors white putty sucksYuck [yuck] as I now know the Squadron gren putty works a lot better and I'm going to finish up with that.

Hood -N- Grill rebuild: On the stock GTO I just removed the grill and cut off the first part of the hood just in front of the ram air scoop. The hood airscoop is realy at the right level so all I needed to build was and new hood lip from the front of the scoop vents. Ok once I moved the grill up I not notisted that in the pnotos that the bummper had a odd shape. So I started to fill in and build up the thickness of the putty so I can then carve or sculpte the shape of the bummper in place. On the right and left finders I fill in that long vinte looking thing and the two side turning signals. You must make them shoter than that the of the GTO. As for the stock wheel I was going to use the stock kit wheel and just paint in or fill in the black spaces and use a thinned black wash to weather them, but I like the Fat Dady wheel more now that I'm building this model for my self. I like the paint idea with my white stripes and that whie rag roof. I hoop you all can see I added 4-10" in the read deck to give it that up to date street look, and I'll keep the interior fully stock. Oh i'm adding a Modelcar-G PE radio and seat belts and thats all fot the interior. I'm going to also add more PE to the body as this build go's on.
