Roll bar padding
Posted by ga.retread on Saturday, November 8, 2008 7:07 PM
Can anyone give me some help simulating roll bar padding in race cars? I can fab up thebars o.k., but I 'm at a loss for the padding. Thanks.

My methods are mostly "Old School" -  Take a piece of electrical wiring of the same size, make a straight slice from end to end. Remove the wire and use the insulation for padding.

Thanks. I thought about electrical wiring, but I wasn't sure how to get the color right. I mean, wire insulation is usually shiny and padding is mostly dull or flat. Would a black sharpie marker work?

I use heat shrink tubing. Usually it is not shiney and available in many colors.

Heat shrink sounds liek a great idea, comes in diff colors and is also flat in color mostly.

So is electrical wire sometimes too. Both are good ideas.

neoprene tape looks pretty convincing too.
