HappyMartian,

Try misting the first couple of coats before going to a "wet" coat.  This will seal the tape without having to worry about Future.  Just spray from a couple of inches further back than you normally do.  The sheen will be matte and look like a fine grit sandpaper, but it will give the following coats of paint something to grab on to.  Wait about 15 min between mist coats, when the body is fully covered, give it a wet coat.  If possible try to spray perpendicular to the tape line, this will help prevent paint build up as well.  As soon as possible, remove the tape to prevent capillary action from pulling the paint under the tape (within a couple of hours of the last coat).  Give the paint a couple of weeks to dry, then buff it out with your favorite polishing system (if you do that sort of thing).

Cheers Seabee. Fortunately, the tape in the pic was just a visual aide to try and judge the 4 different paint demarcations. Lucky I did so I can see the work needed to make an accurate Manta (arches are too wide and need to be lowers by a few millimeters. Easy stuff Smile [:)]) But as you mention it, I've always had problems with any type of masking tape and paint seepage so I'm aiming to coat each paint layer with Future on this build.

Hope I'm not too late - or you saw and corrected it yourself - but you WILL have seepage under that masking tape. You must get it down properly into the corners, esp there at the fenders where the bulge flattens out.

Slight problem on my build. The paint scheme has a white band from front to rear which goes through the middle of the door and just under the wheel arches. I've tried to replicate it with masking tape.

The wheel arches are too high and too exaggerated. As a result, they affect the sizing of the text on the front and rear fenders. I'm still going ahead with it but to do a correct body with the thickness of the resin in this body would require some serious modifications.

I'm not running the build but I say jump in. I've built the plain unmarked Alpine 1600 and it is a nice kit, practically builds itself. Smile [:)]

Nice build there, Bushpig. If there were mistakes they're not noticeable and I'm sure most will agree that it doesn't matter as long as you enjoyed it.

You'll find more reference for the Monza Rally Focus than his Pug 206, partly because of his fame and that it was a National rally competition but more because his Pug didn't last too long on the wet British roads back in 2002. IIRC, he went off on the first stage and retired.

As for my build of the Opel Manta, initial bodywork is done. I'm attending a vintage rally festival this weekend where this car and others from the '80s are running so can get some really close pics and videos Whistling [:-^] for the decals and the color scheme. If possible, I may sneak a Scooby in while the decals are being worked on.

Finished the Rossi Corolla, I have mostly enjoyed my first attempt at a car. As I said made a few mistakes but overall not too bad. I still have the decal sets to do his Ford Focus and Peugeot so may continue with this GB if I have the time.

Seabee at the risk of turning this GB into a cycling review will keep it brief! Actually I am cycling but as an avid MTB'er am doing it purely for fun. Last week in Stellenbosch I nearly died from the heat and "that climb". Good luck on Sunday and keep it safe

Nearly done with my build, just need to attach the windscreen wipers and the aerials and that should be it. maybe next week.

Hey Bushpig, nice to hear you'll be there! You one of the "Think Bike" bike marshalls or just there on the bike? I am presuming, of course, you're talking motorised... Wink [;)] Much better thing to be on with the wind predicted! And if it blows like it's supposed to according to the weatherman, I'll go for a "jol around the mountain" rather than chasing times. It's just so much different to any other race!

Had a good season thusfar and is actually for the Argus more worried about missing the fun in event. Ironically, since this is the one everybody asks your time, etc. This is really the one event I totally go out to enjoy and take in...

I have fallen behind a bit, school got serious so free time has been short, also started flying again so that is more time away from the Corolla. Anyways spring break is coming up soon, hope to get the seatbelts out of the way during the break.

In terms of my build I am just about done, have made some mistakes along the way but overall am not too unhappy with the result so far. Should be ready to post some final pics in the next few days.

Guys, sorry. Came here to confess that I've fallen out of this one completely. Major preparations and racing (cycling) season over here, so that has stolen so much time that I've never even started.

How's the rest of you going, because the thread seems pretty quiet...

I'm another one that's followed Andy and Pat from the RCMB boards. Will probably build a Xsara WRC for this one.

everyone has really good work so far, Today I finished step 1 on the corolla and have some pictures to share.

the fuel tank is a bit rough, first time I have used composite fiber decals from anyone. I really like how it went on just have to perfect the art a little more. I will be using more products from scale motorsports in the future though thats for sure.

Hi Everyone,

My name is Chris. I've recently started model building again after a long hiatus and just joined the forum. I'm primarily into rally cars and have a project going that I thought may interest you. It's definitely a "WIP", and will be for some time, but it fits in with your theme.

I've included a few pictures here but I have many more posted in another forum and will post the link if it's appropriate.

Meanwhile, I hope you enjoy the pics and please feel free to comment or question at will.

  Cheers!

  C.

What to build?

Counter-clockwise from the lower right: There's  Makinen's '99 Evo, McRae '01 Focus (Martin's '03 is coming), Richard Burns' last three cars, the '79 WRC champion's Ford Escort (restoration), and one of many BMW's to come.

Burns' 2001 Rally GB Sub' is getting a re-paint (too dark and I now have an airbrush)

Looks like the boys in blue were a little rough on the trans last time out

The new shop bike arrived and is about to get an exhaust swap

Gotta love that German engineering!

Thanks for viewing!

Dustin,

Without wishing to move your GB, why not fix the end date as the 14th June ? This also fits in with the end of the Acropolis Rally this year.

And if it's not too late, I'd like to enter this :

 to make this

The build won't be the problem, the non-existant decals will be......Cool [8D]

Well it looks like we are doing the GB here, so here is my Lancia. I've got the body primered, painted and clear coated with Future.

Here are a few I've knocked out recently, I think I've got another Revell Focus in the stash somewhere. The first two are Tamiya 1/24 Ford Focus and Puegeot 206, the third one is white metal 1/43rd Fiat Punto.(I can't remember the make)
