looking to restore older models
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, November 26, 2003 3:06 PM
wondered if any knows where I can find replacement parts? I'm trying to "restore" 2 Rolls Royce 1/16 scale coupes by Revell (1978), and missing a few parts and would like to replace the tires, too(rubber is all dried out). Revell won't replace parts, and I don't know model #, part #, etc., and there was no way to contact Revell Monogram to ask them, at least not on their website (www.revell-monogram.com). Also, where can I find some BETTER paints other than Testors? I've seen several built models on Ebay for auction, and people are using Dupont Lucite Acrylic Lacquer, and other better paints than what Testor's makes. Any thoughts? Thanks

First off welcome to the forum Mattgo1. Sorry i can't help you with the model problem. Paints though I can voice my opinion. I have used the Model Master paints with pretty good results. Still made by testors but seem to be better and if you look at the amount you get , cheaper. Tamiya acrylics seem to be pretty good also. You could try posting in the paint topic and would likely get alot of answers from people who have tried more types though. Good luck on your search for the parts.

On my cars and anime [Japanese] robots I always use Dupli-color paints from the auto parts store. They have a gazillion colors and most all match some form of factory paint. I beleive I have used plasti-coat auto paints as well. they all come in a rattle can. Walmart has the Dupli color a little cheaper but not nearly the selection that say Auto Zone has.

On the paints, if you want to pay a little more, Tamiya sprays work nice. Just over all better. One thing I have found I don't like is the smell...I have a spray booth and the oder is still strong.
