If I'm not mistaken, that is a Lola T70.

BJ, thanks for those great photos of the GT40. That is exactly what I have. Now I'm excited to clean and restore it. BTW, what is that red car in the shed in the background? The P4 is a curbside model just like this GT

So it was really black. A blue would be fantastic but you are right there are no decals for that.

The #2 Ford GT Mk II was black with silver stripes.  That was the first place car in 1966.  There was also a gorgeous dark blue #6 with bright yellow trim on the fenders - I don't think Fujimi made decals for that one.

Thanks for the kind words Rick. Actually this is my first car build in a year. I had to do a lot of puttying with those mirrors as the fit is not quite good. It came out pretty well I think.  I have a lousy painted Ford GT 40 which I am planning to restore. I'm not quite sure about the color though. Was it a dark blue or black as Fujimi has suggested?

A beautiful model!!

I love that car - right after the Ford GT family.

If David Piper had been the driver, it would have been green.  He always painted his team's cars in his national colors.  (I intend to build one of his, just like I will one of the overall yellow Belgian cars).

This #24 was driven to 3rd place at Le Mans in 1967 by Willy Mairesse (a Belgian fellow, hence the fat yellow stripe) and another who used the alias of "Beulys".  There must have been a great story behind that.

Before looking at your model, I had never noticed the streamlined mirrors.  It turns out that the P4s used that only at Le Mans that year.  At the other races, they had regular-looking mirrors perched up on the fenders, or even up on stilts 10-12" tall.  Your model is right on t he money for the Le Mans car.  Beautiful!

Rick

I'm not quite sure really. I'm certain though that John Surtees was one of the the team drivers. This Fujimi kit was really fun to build. They came out with this many years ago but it already has some metal parts in it like the intake screen and the vanes on the lower sides in front. I'm glad also that the decals are still good.

Well done a very nice model and build.Yes this is also a car I too would like to own! Especially as I saw them up close whilst racing at Silverstone in their heyday. Now was David Piper the driver?

Remember , common sense is not common.

I was making an inventory of my stash when I found this Fujimi kit crushed under other kit boxes. I started working on it during the Christmas break and finished it last week. Here are photos of a car I can only own as a scale model.
