I tried the decals today on one tire, but it self-destructed as I slid it off the paper. I think my best bet is to buy them, as I don't think my hamds are steady enough to paint them.

Thanks for the info, I didn't know where to look .

Why not just buy the redlines?

I don't think I have a steady enough hand to paint the stripes, but if I did, acrylic would be the way I'd do it.

I have actually used the kit decals before. The old "pro modeler" '69 Charger had them. I remember they were a pain to apply because they tended to break, but they looked OK in the end. I was about 14-15 when I tried those last, so if I could get them decent looking then, they can't be that difficult to apply with a little patience.

Also, if you don't touch them, they'll stick just fine, but if you want to clear coat them once they're on the tire, stick to using an acrylic paint and you should be fine.

Two ways to accomplish this: You can buy red stripes from Pegasus Model Products or you can 'paint' them on with acrylic paint. This type of paint will stick to the tires and not 'burn' them like an oil based paint. If you can get ahold of a 'drafting pen' like from Rapidograph, fill the pen with acrylic paint and slowly spin the tires applying the paint evenly.

Some of the car model kits come with red stripe decals, so ask around and someone may toss some your way!

Have you ever tried to paint the red stripe on the tires of a '60s era musclecar?  If so, what did you use and how did you accomplish the feat? I mean, what kind of paint will stick to those vinyl tires?

I am using the AMT kit of the '68 Road Runner to try and duplicate my first "real" new car. They have provided some decals that are supposed to go on the tires, but i do not see how a decal will stick on the tire.

Any help and/or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
