1992 Viper RT/10 project

I'm sorry, can't help you on the images- but I can tell you this is my favorite 1:1 car

Hmmm... the RT/10 is the convertible right? I take that back- I like the hard top- either way- looking forward to this build, are you doing the WIP right here? I'll be watching out for it.

Yeah, I'll keep the W.I.P. right here. I just finished washing the trees today. They're drying right now. I have about 2 hours worth of work left on my Huey, then on to the Viper. And yes, the RT/10 I'm doing is the convertible. It shows on the box to paint it bright red, but I'm not sure...I think I may go with gloss black. I saw a black one on the internet today and I really love the way it looks... Here's a link to the pictures of the black RT/10:

I agree, I've never liked the "red sports car" look, too gaudy... no surprise when you see them recked up on the news or pulled over on the side of the road.

The blacks always been up there on my list, although I do also like their old mix of blue body/white stripe.

Of course that's just me... guess it's pretty attention grabbing in it's own right. haha it is a Viper after all.

Looking forward to seeing the Huey finished and the Viper on the bench- that 1:1 you have has some really cool history behind it, thanks again for sharing.

LOL. It's funny you mention the GTS. It's in my stash as well! After I'm done with the RT/10, I have a AH-1Z chopper I want to do, then off to the GTS, which will definately be blue with the white stripes.

hey I built this kit a few years ago before i got better.. and it actually looked (at the time) halfway decent.. I can take pics of the engine if you want.  I didn't super detail it, I just did it as the instructions said.  Sadly it looks more like a wrecked Viper now (missing a couple wheels, no hood XD)

As far as assembly, while it seems to be tight (because its packed in there) it actually goes together really well.  The only thing I remember for sure having problems with (that are still apparent) was the fact it calls for the side pipes to be black, but they're chromed and back then I didn't know how to strip chrome 

Well, I'm going to mke a trip to WalMart and the hobby shop today to do a little shopping for my Viper project. Couple questions: Where does everyone get the small wires for the plug wires in the engine bays? They are obviously pretty small wires. Does the hobby shop or Wally World have something along those lines? Second: I'm now thinking of going with a custom color for this first Viper. The GTS will be the blue with white stripes, but now I'm kinda thinking crazy...Plum Crazy to be exact...about the RT/10. I know they never made the RT/10s in Plum Crazy, but do you think it would look bad? What color interior do you think if I go the Plum Crazy route? Tan? Gray? Black? Thanks for looking!

Oh ok yeah- that sounds good. Sorry- wish I could help with the wires, I tend to work in 1/35 primarily and all I have is some speaker wire from Radio Shack, even then, it really looks better in 1/16

I'm sure one of the Auto pros will step in and tell you what they use.

Not a whole lot of progress to report on as its been too damn cold here in Ohio to go outside and paint! So I've been slowly working on the interior and the engine bay. The engine halves were painted in Model Masters Steel and the headers were painted in MM Gun Metal. Don't get me started on how much of a pain those headers were to paint. The mufflers under the car will most likely be painted either flat black with the rest of the chassis or MM Steel, and the side pipes will be flat black. Here's a couple pictures of the engine on the trees, and then dry mounted onto the unpainted chassis:

And here is a picture of what the finished engine will most likely resemble, except I will be painting Plum Crazy where the blue is painted here in the area of the dual electronic throttle control:

Well, it's finally warm enough in Ohio to paint outside today! So I took advantage of the temperature to paint the chassis of my Viper. The drive train is pretty much complete, except for the rear differential cover. Until I can mask/putty off the body, I'll be working on painting the valve covers and the upper intake plenum. I've also started to paint the interior parts as well.

Well, the brake discs and the calipers are all painted up, and thanks to one of the MANY techniques I am learning after finding this site, I was able to paint the raised "Viper" lettering on the calipers silver by using a pencil eraser dipping in silver paint, then touching the eraser to the caliper. AWESOME idea! I will be using it again when I paint the lettering on the body when its complete. Anyway, here's a picture. Sorry for the crappy quality. I think the super macro function on my camera was too good for its own good LOL. I think the brakes look MUCH better in person.

Progress has been a bit slow the last couple days as I am preparing to go back to work from my layoff and I havent had a lot of time to put into the model. The interior is slowly coming along, but as of this moment the chassis is complete save for the rear suspension, which will be glued on today after the paint dries I hope. Thanks for looking!

Progress has been slow as I am back to work again, and when I get home I dont feel like doing much LOL But here is an idea of what the interior is looking like. The dash will most likely be black with white face gages. I'm going to try to detail the radio and climate controls a bit too, but damn they look small!
