My hobby BLOG from Japan
Posted by Gaijin Modeler on Tuesday, March 31, 2009 3:25 AM

Hi guys,

I've been maintaining a hobby BLOG for the past few months, posting some pictures of my completed models. As you can see from the site, mainly I build bikes and cars, but still enjoy the occasional plane or armor model. Stop by the site and take a look if you are interested. I still consider myself a fairly newbie at scale modeling, but would still like to share my work with people outside my hobby circle here in Japan.

Wow! Domo Arigato for the pics. If you are a newbie, you have a gift. Keep up the great work.

If I may offer a suggestion, if you are going to display the green #4 racer, you may want to add the wires that would come out of the back of the gauges on the instrument panel. Your metal work is first rate. You show detail and contrast and keep it looking clean at the same time. Your metal looks metallic without that chrome plating many kits come with which I've never thought looked very realistic. I cannot wait to see your future projects.

Thanks Pavlvs for the nice comments! I've been scale modeling seriously for about 1.5 years now - love it, it is so addictive!

Thanks for the tip on the Lotus racer, it should have some wires from the back of the gauges, I think I'll add some and retake that particular photo.

As for the factory chrome plating, I also don't like the way it looks as it comes from the kit. For the majority of my kits I will remove the chrome plating with bleach and respray with a finish I think looks much better. I think the factory chrome may be too thick, and it hides some of the crisp details of the parts such as radiators. I'm working on a Subaru 2004 rally car now, hopefully I'll finish it by the end of the month and post some photos.
