Comin back and a little venting

Hi everyone!

I'm starting up again after about a 2 year hiatus, not that long but long enough for you to forget to not mic flats and enamals (kidding, you should never forget it!)

Anyway, I've accrued some NICE old NASCAR Kits while not being able to build! Thank god for eBay.  ANYWHO  I was very optimistic and decided to start my hobby back up with a 1/24 Cale Yarborough Hardees number 29 (I know he was known for #28).  But with the Indy and The 600 this weekend I thought what a better time to start back up.

So everything was going GREAT!  until tonight.  I tend to hurry, especially when it's been so long since I've held a completed model in my hands.  Basically I know it's mostly me, but probley some of the kit, the engine wouldn't fit.  So I had to squeeze it in, I don't plan on displaying the engine, but thought I should put it in for a moral victory, while doing this, I found that nothing will fit together.  SO, The underside is completely FUBARed.  So being a little intelligent, I've walked away for the night.

Thanks for listening.  I'll post pics once I finally get it to a presentable spot.  The sad but great thing is that The Body is coming along nicely, maybe I can pull it out if I just get the dang wheels on and the body and just never open the hood or look under the body...

Missed you guys!  Oh if you're curious I racked up about 20 kits while on break!  Can't wait to hone my skills again!

oo only 20 in two years?

I'm guessing you mean the old Hardee's Oldsmobile kit put out by Monogram (1987?).  My problem with those older kits have always been the decals being a bit too big, which can range from no big deal (such as a stripe being too long) to a giant pain in the butt (such as one that's supposed to fit JUST the hood but ends up hanging down over even part of the fender wells).  If its the kit I'm thinking of I can't wait to see it finished.  Theres somthing I like about that flat fronted thing, but I can't say I've ever seen one built up.

And welcome back to the hobby!

I always liked those Monogram Oldsmobile kits too. Sort of put me in mind of the second generation Ventura and Nova late model sportsman cars, at least the kit did. Here's mine I built about the time the kit was new. Don't remember too many problems, but I always have a "torch" close by when I build a stock car. IIRC it was another run off the original GM tool from the Monte Carlo with a couple of twists to make it fit the new sheet metal so most of the "bugs" had been worked out by then. Seeing as how most of the real ones followed this plan, art follows life, huh? LOL
