Wheel Question

i have a set of 5 lug bare wheels.  no hubcaps.  if ya want 'em their yours.  if ya want a pic to see let me know.  it looks like the hub caps dont match.  you could to try to make your own caps.  i'll help ya out any way i can

Looks like you need dog dish hubcaps!I'll send you these if it will help!(They are from Revell's Chevy 150 kit has the Chevy bowtie embossed in the center)

Glad you solved the wheel problem. Not sure what engine comes in the 55 truck kits but in real life they are probably the 265 V8.  They look exactly the same as the later 327 as far as the block and heads go, the main difference would probably be the valve covers, intake manifold, carb & aircleaner.  And the oil filter was mounted in a different place in the 50's not on the bottom of the block like on later Chevy engines.  The best available 327 is in the AMT '66 Nova SS kit.  But that has the dual snorkel air cleaner used on the SS and probably would not be correct for a truck. Best bet if you don't have a photo of your dad's engine would be to use the 55 engine and maybe a newer aircleaner.

Sadly, this is the only picture we have of it.  Everything else is just built off what he said. 

Both kits came with a 265, and had different air filters on top, but other than that they were the exact same.  And, the only 327's I could even find (other than the actual kit of a 327, like 1/6th scale) was either the Nova SS you mentioned, or the 64 Impala lowrider, which I have neither of.  Oh well, the one that came with the street machine looks good for it.  

Oddly enough both kits were exact same with the exception of the exhaust, wheels, and side peices for the bed.  I was expecting a bigger more "tuned" engine or somthing for the "street machine" version, but its not.  Tree for tree other than one small section of the engine tree and some of the chrome tree, they're the exact same, only one is white and the other is a purple color.  Plus for some reason the hood fits better on the "street machine" version.. 

 

I'm pretty sure the AMT engine parts pack has a 327 in it. The older ones are getting pretty hard to find, but the new ones that come in a regular size model box are pretty easy to get. I see them on ebay a lot.

For the wheels take a look at the AMT '60 Chevy pickup. The '51 Chevy kit has dog dish hub caps too.
