Just found this site:

http://www.acme.com/licensemaker/

It's a really neat site. You can make up your own license plate and then print it out or whatever. I've never had any experience with 'decal' paper but even if you just print it out on some photo-quality paper you should be able to just cut it out and then glue it on. I haven't tried it out yet myself (I just stumbled across it) but I am looking forward to giving it a shot. There is also a link to another site that has just blank license plates that you can download and then manipulate in a graphics program yourself if you feel comfortable doing that.

You can check out Model Car Garage or Detail Master. They have tons of detailing wires, etc. that you could buy. However, alot of 'detailing' items can be found around the house (or department store) at considerably less $. You can get thin electrical wire from Radio Shack that is really nice for doing spark plug wires, etc. Comes in red, blue, and white.... I've also used 'solder': it is really easy to bend and can be painted fairly easily. Also comes in various widths.

Check out The Platemaker. They advertise in FSM. As far as engine plumbing, checkmout back issues of Scale Auto and FSM for articles. Whar would you like to knoe? General things, or a specific engine?
