Monogram Tom Daniel California Vette
Posted by philo426 on Thursday, October 1, 2009 7:30 AM
I wa going through my parts stash when I found a Funky Corvette body that a previous owner had used for a paint test mule.Upon further examination I realized it was a Monogram Tom Daniel California Vette which is quite valuable.I stripped it down and found little damage so I decided to build her up.The Body wa missing the hood so I tried the hood from the AMT '70 Vette kit.The hood fit but I have to add styrene at the back.I discovered that the Revell Penske '66 Vette coulld provide the chassis, interior tub and sidepipes so i picked it up. Here are some pics.

Valuable?  As in How Valuable?  I've got two or three of these down toward the bottom of my "Some Day" pile.

Well I guess on Echo Bay they go for over 100 bucks a pop!Of course if they re-issue it like they did  Rommels Rod and the TJ Taxi values could lower dramatically!

I extended the hood to the cowl and then carved the hood louvers.i took a block of .80 styrene and carved them out using my Dremel and a set of needle files. Here is a pic of my progress.

Jeepers.  I'm sure I didn't pay any more than $8 for them, back in the day.

I think the reaon the prices are so high for the California Vette is the fact it has not been re-issued.Revell just re-released the Rommel's Rod and TJ Taxi so if they re-issue the  vintage '73 kit prices my fall to a substantial degree.

My two must be later issues.  I am fairly certain neither has Tom Daniels' pic on the box top.  I'll have to check the numbers.
