I'm working on an old AMt Caterpiller bulldozer, the D8. Does anyone make an overhead

safty shield conversion kit to protect the operator from falling objects. I think it is a

mandatory safty item today.  modelbob71@live .com

I've never seen one offered, but I made my own from Evergreen Styrene. I've looked at a couple of old D-8s like the kit and all had a very simple ROPS (Roll Over Protection System) of heavy tubular steel that appeared to be retrofitted. I don't recall the exact year now, since I built my kit several years ago, but I believe OSHA did not require any roll over protection until the early 70s.

Mine was built as a firefighting dozer so I also added fire resistant curtains.

I also made a custom grill, I saw a few with the top cut out for better ventilation and liked the look.

and with its friends Smile [:)]

I have some photos of a D8H like the kit with a ROPS on my site here, near the bottom of the page. It may be helpful for building the top as well as detailing the kit.

This looks like it would be fairly easy to scratchbuild.  The hardest bit would be coming up with that tiny pinstripeBig Smile [:D]
