Look what I did in about an hour last night.

While I was going through some stuff when I got home last night I found a diecast kit I had bought some time ago when Wallyworld was phasing out the models. Usually the only time I buy diecast is to use for "lot lice"to use as background  for my photo shoots because I don't have to build them and they are extremely durable.

But, the subject matter ('56 T-bird) and the price (regularly $14.94 marked down to $4.00) helped me to make an exception and take a chance that the roughed up box didn't disguise lost parts.

I started cutting parts off the sprues while I was waiting on some pictures to download (dial up is a pain) and built this little Thanksgiving 'bird in between my surfing in about an hour. Seeing as how it's the first thing I've built in over a year, and it turned out pretty good, maybe I can get revved up to build some "real" models over the winter.

Not what I would have picked on the color (Tuxedo Black would have been my first choice) but with tampoed emblems I was pretty much stuck with this. Maybe it'll grow on me but I don't think so.

Nice build Mitchum.  I'm like you-not crazy about die cast kits, but I do have fond memories of taking a completed 56 Ford Sunliner apart & repainting in to match a car that my mother & uncle shared.  I gave it to my uncle for Christmas-he was speechless.  Worth the effort.  And the only way to get a replica of a Sunliner...

Hey doolan,

Hope that little bird build gets you in the mood to model some more of your masterpeices!

Keep 'em coming chief, I really enjoy your work.

Didn't you have some flying birds you did? A spit and a mousetang? or something.

Get back to the bench(I'm trying too!) let's see some more of your wonderful work and the knowaldge of the subject you have is second to none.

Thankss for posting.

DR. Faust.

Just build it (and post pics when youre done)

Thanks ya'll. Doc, although I started out with the planes, and spent the first five years or so of my modeling "career" almost excluvely with them, I've built mostly car since then. Those color shots were of my making only in the fact that I set up and shot the pics. The planes were the prebuilt 1/18 scale stuff from 21st Century.

Here's a shot that I took second place in a "what I did this summer" photo contest using a 1/48 Monogram Corsair that I did build though.

I've got a bunch of "birds" in the stash that I want to build like a 1/32 Scorpion, some of the Monogram 1/48 bombers and a 1/32 P-40 that I want to free hand the AVG markings on. I've loved airplanes ever since I figured out that it wasn't birds making that racket in the air and probably always will.

I think the next big project though will be a resumption of work on my new "museum" set for "location photography". I just got some stuff for the sides that completely redirected the style of building and I hope will make for a more durable building. I'm pretty excited about it and will be posting some in progress shots hopefully very soon.
