1/25th Racing Slick Question
Posted by Sprue-ce Goose on Sunday, January 3, 2010 5:17 PM

I need advice from the auto experts.

I'm new auto kit bashing and want to upgrade the racing slicks on some car kits.

The fattest slicks I've seen in 1/25th scale ( an old, out of production Revell dragster ) measure 30mm dia  x  9.75mm "tread" width.

Can anyone give me recommendations for likely kit donors or aftermarket wheels and rims in either 1/25 or 1/24th?

Thanks and Happy New Year !

You can get them much fatter than that in other kits. Pro Street/Stock kits and funny cars will usually have the biggest tire. There are also a number of aftermarket resin tires as well.  It may be easier to point you in the right direction if you let us know what your building plans are. Different forms of racing and different eras call for different slicks.

My reason for this post?

I'd like to scratch build a 60's style showcar using 4 rear slicks on an extended frame as something different from the usual kit.

Yes, I know.....in the real world how do ya get the power to all the wheels and keep 'em on the pavement.

But remember- this is supposed to be a showcar; completely illogical but flashy like a Ed "Big Daddy" Roth creation

I am looking at the possibility of raiding kits for tires such as

Revell re-issue #  85-4289 • Mongoose Duster
NHRA® Funny Car • 1:25; 85-4287 • Hawaiian Charger   NHRA® Funny Car • 1:25 or 85-4286 • Chi Town Hustler Charger NHRA® Funny Car • 1:25 kits

BUT ....................

that gets expensive very fast.

Therefore the question about aftermarket 1/25th race slicks & rims.

Does anyone make 'em?

Alternatively, I visit an IPMS show & haggle for old kits- I believe Crystal Lake, Il is supposed to be hosting one in July.

Suggestions I can Google  would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again & Happy New Year !

Thanks !

As I haven't built car kits since well before the internet, I didn't realize the amazing amount of stuff available. Some parts may also end up on a Deals Wheels Messaschnitzel & Spitsfire kit.

I wil enjoy sifting thru this website!
