Paint steps for my 55 Nomad
Posted by IBuild148 on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 4:52 PM

Happy New Year,

One of my many builds in progress is a AMT 55 Nomad. I am close to painting the exterior and I would like to know if the following process will give me that "Shiny Look"?

1. Prime using "Krylon Spray Paint Primer, White"  2 light coats, maybe 3.

2. Will I need to sand between primer coats and what grit?

3. Overall color will be Model Master Boyd Enamel - Dk Yellow laying down 2  - 3 coats.....OR more???

Thanks for the positive direction,

Marc

Just the same as they would if prepping a real 55 Nomad. Wet sand using various grits from 800 up to 1200 but be careful on the high spots so as to not ruin detail.

Consider a scratch coat.  Shoot a light coat of a different color primer over your white.  Wet sand until the scratch coat is gone and you're back to the white.  Any low areas needing filler will show up as the scratch coat color.
