Surf's up!

Nice model, although I am an aircraft man myself.

When I noticed the title of this post "Surfs up" & saw it was from a "larger cheese" at FSM, my instant reaction was to assume "surf" was mean in the WWW sense & considering some of the more recent forum issues - you can imagine the conclusion I quickly came to!

I have been surfing since the early days, I used the "Smartmodem" to get into the astonishing BBSs that were available - still dont understand why you need the VW or the big snowboard to surf?

Nice factory fresh finish Matt, most VW vans I have seen cruzeing south central BC have been painted in a 'flower power' theme LOL How about two quotes:

Nice bar 2 issues. Surfboards with a finish that clean? They may be that clean at the shop but, hmmm, thats about the only place, a couple of sessions and that sand and salt does alot. Second, NEVER seen a surfie with a combie looking that shiny, new and unloved. Three,  NO FURRY DICE!!!

That's funny! I wanted to add a little weathering to the bus -- some sand kicked up onto the body by the rear tires. But there's hardly any bodywork back there! I'd like to do another one as a well-weathered board hauler -- a little primer here and there, etc.

I have the pickup version in my collection somewhere. That would be a great candidate for some wear and tear, too.

Matt, looks great, even with a showroom finish paint job. Masking those windows must have been a monumental task.

You could have eschewed the masking and painted over the windows like this, but I think your paint job was easier!

That is absolutely beautiful Mr. Usher ! I love it. I admit to having a weak spot for these and my oun VW storys---I had a '67 VW Bus (the split-window) and if I still had it I'd be rich!

The board is a tribute to big-wave surfer Greg Noll. He surfed and sold boards in the 1960s, and he always wore black-and-white striped swim trunks. It made him easy to spot in photos from the shore. If you're interested in big-wave surfing, I'd highly recommend the documentary "Riding Giants." TONS of great surfing (and surf-wagon) footage.

Oh well......& you'd think the Ventura guy would have guessed it!
