Yamaha XS650 twin?
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, January 1, 2004 11:22 AM
Since I'm already working on getting ready to make several kits in vacuform, I've decided to go out on a limb and make one of my favorite motorcycle, a 1977 Yamaha XS650 OHC twin. Should be rather easy, since I already have two of them in 1/1 scale (one runs, the other doesn't).

I'm thinking of doing it in either 1/8 or 1/12 scale...what is the usual for motorcycles these days?

The norm seems to be 1/12, atleast over here in Japan.

But I have also seen many kits in 1/8, 1/9, 1/6 and 1/24.
Personally, I would say that the subject, detail level and the skill of the model maker should decide on the scale used.

Tamiya does quiet a few 1/6 scale kits, IMHO, they are inferior to the 1/12 kits. It seems that each maker has a scale where they excel and others were they are inferior, may it be plastic, resin, vinyl, etc kits.
