Newer Crown Vic?
Posted by rbkep on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 9:54 AM

I am not a car modeler, so I could really use your expertise here in the Autos forum! I would like to build either a 2005 or 2009 Crown Vic.; I am a police officer and these are my first two cars. Seems the only kits out are older versions. Are there any plastic kits of the years I'm looking for or will I have to resort to finding a preassembled metal car?

Thanks in advance for your help!

rbkep Ha ha! This month's 'Readers Gallery' in Fine scale modeler has your car on page 36. Lindberg 1/25 scale Crown Victoria. Looks like about a 05'

There are none in plastic, but the diecast "kits" are actually really good. They come apart easily and are available in several colors.

I got a 1/18 Motormax Crown Vic to build as my brother's car. It's got great detail and is easily disassembled so you can add more detail or change colors and trim. I think most of them come with a couple of light bars so you have a choice. There are also light and/or siren kits available. Fun stuff, and as soon as my brother finds a department to work for (after layoffs), I'll be building his car  with lights for him.

Here are a couple of good sites to start with in case you haven't found them:

Hey, thanks for the heads up. Because of this new job, I'm an issue or two BEHIND in the reading! Just looked and found it. Awesome, thanks again!

Jon,

Thanks for the information and the web sites; both are new to me and great sources! The more I think of it, diecast may be the way to go; spend more time customizing equipment and markings and not worry so much about assembly? Plus, you're right. There just isn't a plastic kit close to what I want.

Thanks again!

The Lindberg kit is of a 1996 model.  On policecarmodels.com, the Welly is a nice kit, and is of the 2000-up year model. I have ordered light bars, and other stuff and have not been dissapointed yet.

Welly has one in a plain white white wrapper you can do many things with. I got mine when Testors was marketing them under thier name, and I made mine a Denver traffic car. It came with 3 different lightbars, the Whelen Edge Strobe, the jetsonic, and the 7-pod Vector.

I will definitely have to check out the Welly. My "first" was an '05 CVPI with the 7-pod Vector. Only one in our "fleet" that had it and boy, did everyone make fun of that vector! Especially the County Deputies that had           new LED lightbars! But, like with a lot of things, there is always something about your "first," even with all it's faults. Good thing is, since I had the oldest car, when we got '09s, I got the first one (well, after the Chief of course!).

Thanks for the information!

You are right. Watched the unveiling webcast last Friday (03/12). Sounds like Ford is going the way Carbon Motors is with the E7; more "cop friendly" and listened to street officers when making changes rather than try to fit cop work/stuff into a "civilian" car. This is a decent article with picture.... http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-police-car15-2010mar15,0,3458431.story
