Testors 426 Hemi V8
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, January 5, 2004 7:05 PM
Purchased Testors' 426 Hemi V8 model not long ago. Have run into a problem. The distributor & fuel lines want to occupy the same space. Anyone have any suggestions? This is basically a very good looking model with this one exception.

My son got me the Hemi for Christmas and I had the same problem. From reading the threads in Scale Auto the group over there have had the same problems. It seems like it was an error on Testors part and they never corrected it. Here's what I found out. The chrome plated pieces are plated with something that is like real chrome meaning that there is a copper base coat with chrome over the top. It is hard enough that it won't file but can be sanded with emery to remove the chrome for gluing. After I tried to gently bend the fuel line with the fuel block on the end it snapped because the chrome is so hard. If I had to do it over I would probably apply a little heat and then bend it . After mine broke I cleaned up the ends, mounted the other lines and then pulled the broken ends together and super glued them. It doesn't look too bad and when the air cleaner is put on the carbs you can't see it. It seems like when the people at Testors put the first one together they would have done something about it. Hope this helps.

Here's a pic of the area on my Hemi.

Top with air cleaner removed.

The fuel line is right against the vacuum advance diaphragm but it did fit. I stripped the chrome off of all the fuel lines and the vacuum line with oven cleaner so I could sand off the seams and then painted them with Alclad II "Stainless Steel".

Do a search on "Testors Hemi" here and on Scale Auto's web sites and look at those threads for hints and tips. The most important one I got from these sites was that for the o-rings the kit uses as the fan belts and the main drive belt. The instructions will have you breaking the power steering pump off when they tell you to put a too-small belt on.

I have posted more pictures in another thread, if you take your time it comes out nice.
