I started that model a while back, but it's on hold right now.
I chopped the top, recontoured the hood opening and cut open the doors. I also recontoured the bottom of the doors to match the body line. I'm still thinking about the rear end and the trunk lid. Hmmmm, can't just leave it alone! I'll probably use skirts too.
Haven't yet decided what to use as a motor, but may stay with the flathead.
Matt Fly fast, fly low, turn left!

I've completed the interior. Added a trans dip stick and oil filter (none supplied in the kit) I just cut off a piece of the plastic tree and glued it onto the oil filter location. Now I need to finish painting the body and get it done. I would suggest a green metallic. I've seen a green Merc and it looked great. Steve

I have been building one for quite a while now, it’s a slow project!!
I started by chopping the roof about a scale 6in slanted the 'B' pillars and cut open the drivers side door, and converted it to right hand drive (Australian) I wasn’t happy with the look of the rear end with the chop it looked too 'blunt?' so I lengthened the rear a scale foot so it now has a more gentle curve. I have scratch built an all new interior as I was unhappy with the original, and am in the process of 'Zeding' the front and rear ends for a lower stance. The motor will be an ARDUN head flattie lifted from another kit. It is going to be a very traditional led sled when finished maybe in dark candy red or green??

I'm in the middle of mine now. I got the kit on ebay, and just happened to not notice that it had no trunk lid...I had to scratchbuild that...yuk! I've been kinda blending all the different versions. I dug up some more beefy tires, and mounted the moon hubs on them...with whitewall painted. The body I painted Tamiya's Gunmetal. Its such an awesome deep metalic color...almost like sparkle black. (a lead sled - so to speak) I used bare-metal foil on all the trim, including the printed mercury badges on the nose. Right now, the body is drying from its 2nd coat of gloss. Then engine is all monochrome (black silver) I wired all the sparkplugs in the 440 to a distributor from a detail kit. Oil dipstick...good idea! I hear about those sometimes, and I always forget to put them in.

So, I've not started the interior yet...another adventure!
Good luck...post pictures if you can!

Anyone else building the '49 Merc from AMT ? Mine is almost complete. I built and wired the 426, added dip stick, fuel filter. Car is beige with candy apple flames or scallops (Haven't decided yet) with dark brown interior. Should be a sweet 50s ride when I get done with it.
