Blues Brothers-era Monaco

This is AMT's sort-of Dodge Monaco (in its "Joker Goon Car" incarnation) done up as a sort-of CPD cruiser ca. 1977. Build is pretty much OOB except for a little engine rework and remounting of the kit spotlight. I scratchbuilt the Mars Skybolt lightbar using the clickers from bank-giveaway pens for the main lights, and flared styrene tubing for the siren; flashers are reworked kit parts. I grew up in suburban Chicago and visited the locale shown quite often, so this is a nice bit of nostalgia for me.

Enjoy!

Nice job on the Dodge.  I remember when Milwaukee gave up on the black and white sheme and went to sky blue and white and my Dad said they looked like taxis.  Mercifully, Milwaukee went back to black and white this year.  Your build brought back some neat memories.

Nice job.The only thing stopping me from getting this kit is the hot rod looking wheels.

If they ever produced a 1974 Monaco kit,I'd buy a ton of them. The Bluesmobile would be the first version I'd do.

Roger on the racing wheels (and the sport mirrors), which I believe survive from the kit's "Dukes of Hazard" version. I usually build things that fly or float, so the spares box didn't offer any useful alternatives.

Judging from the number of Bluesmobile diecasts that have been put out over the years, you'd thing a real Monaco might be a good seller. Don't have high hopes we'll see it, though.

Thanks for the kind comments.

Greg

One can always hope!

There would be no limit to the number of emergency vehicles you could build.

Just pondering something here....was this the same type of car used in "Hill Street Blues"?

Great job on the car!  It took me a while to realize those were pictures of the model and not the actual car!  Major thumbs up on the model and the photography!

Not as much as Ontario. how many people jump in the back of these and ask to be taken to the airport?

WOW!  That makes Milwaukee's (and Chicago's) cruisers look great.  What were those crazy Canadians thinking?!

The opening credits to HSB show '76-'77 Royal Monacos cruising around. They did use vehicles like the one modeled along with a lot of Caprice and Impalas which CPD actually did use.

You have heard Joni Mitchells song "Big Yellow Taxi".

That's what she is talking about.
