California 49er Merc - Black Gold COMPLETE
Posted by IBuild148 on Tuesday, November 2, 2010 9:23 PM

If I had the $$$ this is the car I would want. Since I don't I decided to live vicariously through Revells KIT# 2860.

The body will be painted using Model Masters Metallic Black

All the outside Chrome will be painted using Model Masters Black Chrome.

The Transmission will be Model Masters Metallic Black

The block and other engine parts will be gold

The Interior will be done in Black and gold

I started a couple of weeks ago and here are a few pics:

Sounds like it's going to be a very interesting build. Don't see too many '49 Merc. builds. Keep the pics coming. Looking good. Yes

That's a nice kit. I like your color choices, that should be cool. I don't think I've ever actually sprayed anything with their black chrome. Bought a bottle but never used it.

Jim and Tony - Thanks for checking in and I will post an update, I hope by Saturday.

I am curious about how the black chrome will work and look myself.

IIRC the "Black Chrome Trim' in a Testors bottle is a really nice semi-flat black. That's "all" although it is a very nice consistency and finish. So unless I'm wrong (and I've used a lot of it) just think semi-gloss or semi-flat black.Wink

That said- it should make for a nice contrast.Cool

Your Merc is shaping up rather nicely.. Looking forward to seeing more WIPs.. Thank you for sharing

And I have to agree, there is just something about her lines....Wink

Here is an update on my Merc. I hope I can finish this by years end.

As mentioned in my first post the chrome has been painted MM Black Chrome, the body MM Metallic Black.

Thanks for looking.

Well, you don't have much time but it looks like you don't have too far to go either. I hope you make it. She looks good!

Krow113,

Any plans on chopping the top? It still looks good!

That turned out really nice. Glad you met your deadline too. You mentioned the other paints but what did you use for the gold? It has a nice sheen to it. I like that Revell kit. I've built one and have a couple more in the stash. Gonna wait till I can order some HoK paints to do the next one. Thinking of a deep kandy purple.

Ib48- This is a friends car ,being a 4 door, chopping is not really an option. I agree though, Merc's need 'roof adjustment' !

Thank you ,Krow113
