An engine hoist is used to take the engine out, after which the engine would be moved to the deck, the bench or a stand. The hoist has a hook on it, whereas the stand has a mounting plate or mounting arms for attaching to the engine, otherwise they are quite similar.

You can find either, as well as a multitude of other useful items here;

Engine Stands

Hello.  Anyone ever notice those little three-legged red stands they use for engines in Scale Auto magazine?  Or, maybe they're engine jacks?  I'm not sure what they're called, but I build a series of 1/24 and 1/25 engines that I'd like to display on some of those little things and I'm wondering where I can get them.  Anyone know?  Thanks a lot!
