You didn't say how far along the model was when it was painted but if you haven't put any clear parts on it yet the paint can be removed by soaking the model in automotive brake fluid for a few minutes and gently brushing off the dissolved paint with a fine hair brush.

My friend Panzerjager is back into building car models with a vengeance and just received a Model A gasser that someone had painted with what appeared to be red Rustoleum.  After a good soak in brake cleaner and some gentle brushing it was restored to bare plastic with no discernable ill effects.  I was totally amazed and have filed this technique away for further possible use.

I use either Krylon primer or Duplicolor primer (the latter is from auto parts stores and is for painting full size cars. I find enamel easier to get a good gloss coat, so I use enamel, and thus clearcoat with Testors glosscoat.  I have also used polyurethane clear gloss varnish thinned way down.

What type of paint did you use on the Mustang?  Ammonia will strip acrylics; Easy Off oven cleaner (stinks) or automotive brake fluid will strip enamels without harming plastic.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about paint selection for the Ferarri until you've corrected the Mustang.
