hooray for the "Black Widow"

Even neater, I was watching an episode of Hot Rod TV the other nite, and an old modeler from the 50's-60's liked the old kit so much that he had a real one built exactly like the kit, right down to the funky pinstriping. It was really cool.

I was extremely happy to find the re-release of the original Monogram Black Widow at my hobby shop the other day. I've been hoping for years they would do this kit again, especially after the Green Hornet came out. I can remember sitting on the floor in my parent's living room, watching "77 Sunset Strip" on black & white TV, building this kit in what, '57-'58 ?? I used a yellow magic marker to make the radiator "brass" !! This kit is so incorrect by today's standards (no transmission or differential, no tail lights, etc), but I don't care ! It's brings back a little of my childhood.

WOW- I had no idea that this kit suffered from things that were common back in the early days of models? That's a shame because I would like a more 'modern' version of that body style. While you can argue that a Bel Aire could be redone to a 210 post sedan I was hoping for the more 'base model' version like this kit since not every 55-57 made was a top of the line Bel Aire coupe.
