I'm hoping to build an accurate 1970 AAR 'Cuda. I have a Revell kit (#2875- green palstic) but this kit looks like a hybrid of a Cuda & Challenger. The body lines are wrong, the hood scoop is too shallow, & the rear tail light area is too round. I was wondering if anyone has compared the later yellow release (#2875) to the original. If so, is it any better?

I have a spare Monogram 1971 Hemicuda kit I could bash into a 1970 to use as a base for the AAR. I remember an old FSM article in which they used a resin set available at one time for this conversion, but is probably OOP by now. Anybody know who made it or where I might be able to get it?

Try searching this site or Scale Auto, if you already haven't. I believe that the latest issue of the kit was supposed to fix some of the problems. One opinion I read somewhere, didn't seem to think so. The body proportions on that original Cuda kit have been discussed alot. Something to do with getting the Challenger chassis to fit the Cuda body. Cuda got stretched ???????  But your right, that Cuda body just aint right.

A long time ago, a company called MPB( NY, late 80's ??), produced a transkit for the AAR. Vac formed hood and plastic tail light panel. I don't know if this kit has ever been compared to the Revell issued/reissued kits for accuracy(hood scoop depth and panel shape). I have one if someone "knowledgable" wants to take a look.

A quick google turned up a resin hood, but what I've heard is that you might have problems ordering direct. I think they have an evil-bay account.

Keep googling and you'll find all the info your looking for.

Thanks for the info.  Since my first post, I've started the conversion from the '71 body into a '70, scratchbuilding as I go. It's coming along pretty well, not a very difficult conversion. I think I'll cast a few more of the tail light panels & grille/headlight panels, in case I decide to do another '70 Cuda someday. I'll look into the resin hood as this is probably the hardest part I would have to scratchbuild. I could just cut the '70 AAR kit hood & adapt the scoop to the '71 hood, fixing the height of the scoop at that time.

I haven't had much time for this project lately, between family, work, & an addition on the house. I also have a real 1970 Challenger RT/SE that I'm trying to finish the restoration of. Needless to say, my time is spread pretty thin, w/ family & home the priority. Hopefully I'll finish the AAR soon, and can post some photos when it's done. Thanks again for the leads!

from what i heard, they used the 1/24 challenger chassis instead of sourcing a 1/25 scale one, and most of the problems stem from there.
