Need 1/25th stock car build advice
Posted by Drew Cook on Saturday, June 11, 2011 9:39 AM

I'm thinking of building A.J. Foyt's 1965 Holman-Moody Ford Galaxie, the one he crashed in at the '65 Riverside Motor Trend 500.  If I can't get my hands on an AMT 1965 Ford Galaxie Lafayette Ford (Fred Lorenzen's car) Annual Issue kit,  which is basically the same car with all the correct NASCAR parts, I'll have to try to bash a regular '65 Galaxie kit.

My question is; would the Lindberg 1964 Plymouth Belvedere (Paul Goldsmith's car) and/or the AMT  '64 Ford Modified Stocker kits contain the NASCAR parts that I'd need  to convert a street Galaxie to A.J.'s stocker?  Is there any other aftermarket source fthat sells 1/25th NASCAR parts -- interior, dash, steering wheel, roll cage, etc., for such a project?

Thanks in advance for any info or advice.

I love to build these old stockers also. Your best bet is to buy a 1969 torino kit. It has all the parts to make a stock car and should fit nicely with the 1965 ford body. I buy these on evilbay it is the AMT 1969 Torino the box shows a stock production car but the kit has the wheels and rollcage etc. to make your galaxie. I have an old post here of a work in progress Torino using this kits parts.

There have been several re-releases of the 65 Ford and the Fred Lorenzen version is probably the most expensive and hard to find. Your bets bet is to get one of the other versions of the 65 and pick up a 66 Ford kit. The 66 has also been released many times and includes a lot of NASCAR parts that would be appropriate for your 65. It also includes a chassis that has the exhaust system cast separately. The Lindberg  Plymouth kit has some good stuff but back then, unlike today, there were a lot of differences between the makes of cars and most of the Chrysler stuff wouldn't be right for a Ford. Finally, check this website for the best sources of info on "darkside" NASCAR:

Thanks guys, I appreciate the advice.  I've found aftermarket sources for the wheels, tires, roll cage, driver figure, and Foyt "00" decals.  Need a few other things, primarily a Holman-Moody NASCAR dash panel, and I'll be set.

I did pick up the '66 Galaxie kit, but haven't opened it yet to check it out.
