1970 Ford Maverick

JoHan or AMT did a (70) Maverick many years ago. IIR it was a drag car, but I think an OEM stock version could be built from the kit. The difficulty will be finding one. There may be a resin kit, but this I am not sure about. Some JoHan kits are being reproduced and there is a web site for them. If you cannot find one this way then start looking for it as a "collectable" kit. 

I have a Motormax 1/24 Diecast '74 Maverick kit but I am sure it differs from a '70!

Johan did a stock version of the Maverick during the early seventies along with the then almost mandatory, in the case of small car kits, tubular funny car chassis.  It would be worth a fortune today if you could find one.

Also having owned a Maverick and a Comet which shared the body style I've kept my eyes open for a model ever since the seventies. What I did find on the shelves (and seen on "the Bay" since) are JoHan drag racers. Since they're kind of 'Super Stock' format I used one a long time ago and removed the kit's Boss 429, replaced that with a donor 302 and then did surgery on the molded on hood scoop and in the end it resembled my street car. Good luck though because whenever I look at getting another the JoHan SS Racer kits fetch a pretty penny on "Da Evil Bay".

I have 2 of the original, 2 in 1, stock or drag Mavericks.  They are nice kits.  The AMT kit has a different grille than the early Jo-han kits.  To find one of these stock kits is going to cost you.  There are resin kits done by Perry's Resin from Canada.  I don't know if I can post a link to his stuff or not, but he makes 2 and 4 door, early and late Mavericks.  The interiors are ALL early Mavericks, as they have the short armrest.  They all have either the late grille with 2 sport lamps or the early grille with the Maverick emblem in the center, no other styles.  The 2 door kits all have the washer fluid bag molded in, but I didn't have a bag on my 2 '71s, my 2 '74s or my 71 Comet.  Shouldn't be hard to eliminate if your 1970 requires it gone.  I've only seen ONE 1970 Maverick in person, and I know that there are a few differences in them, such as the gas tank and the door sill plates.  Those two items will NOT swap with any other year Maverick.  There may be others.  Anyway, I have Perry's 4 door bodies, and they are very nice.  I highly recommend them.  As to the chassis for them(they come without), you could find the old Car Modeler article by Juha Airio about making a Comet GT using the drag kit Comet and a 1969 Cougar Eliminator.  You can get decals from Keith Marks.  If you want any links to these sites, or discuss them further, send me a PM, I love to help!
