F1 - Jordan 191 - More Pics
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, January 26, 2004 9:44 PM
Howdy everyone,

This is my first post with pics - thought I'd put them up for comment. Plus I'm just damn proud of my efforts!

Now I haven't modelled in about 6 years, and this was the project that I was last working on (and yes, I've got the bug again!). It was only my last 2-3 models that I really got down to business and put everything I had into each one, and this Jordan is definitely the peak of my modelling to date. I'm just so proud of it, it totally blows away anything else I've made!

Now it's only about 80% complete, but the bulk of it goes together nicely, and I've taken a few pics to show you all.

1. Top view - as you can see, mostly complete except for the rear wheels, rear spoiler and a few other small odds and ends.

2. Nice lines and cockpit - now this is an awesome shot! I can't believe I actually made this thing! The dash behind the steering wheel looks so good...!

3. Side view - I didn't use the blue decals supplied, rather mixed up some paint that matched them and airbrushed it on. The masking was a pain but all worth it in the end! All the decals went on nicely, no great dramas thankfully. I even cut the "7UP" decal near perfectly! I had a little trouble getting the back of the cowling to fit onto the chassis properly, as you can see, but I'll get that sorted out in time.

So there it is - my pride and joy!
I've brought it back out and have started work on it again, although I have a small 1:35 artillery piece I'm finishing off first just to get back into the swing of things.

Let me know what you think and give me any constructive criticism!
Cheers all,

M

Is there an engine, or is it a curbside???

Great pictures too!!!

Thanks Littlemoe.

Certainly is an engine in there, although it's also only about 80% complete. I remember I managed to destroy a few of the engine parts while trying to get creative all those years ago, hence the second Jordan kit I've got tucked away in the cupboard with a few parts removed for a second go.

I'll take a few pics of what I've done so far and put them up in the next few days.

Until then (sorry, I can't resist), take a look at the Ferrari F189 I finished before I began the Jordan. If I remember correctly, this was the first kit I used an airbrush on. Didn't turn out too badly.

Nice job Mark. Don't even look like you missed a beat on it in the 6 yr break. Can't wait to see it finished up.

Nice job Mark, maybe your promotion to Major will come in afer you finish the Jordan.
Exceptional paint job on both cars.

Very nice job on both, Did you clear gloss over the decals and if so what with, and what top coat did you use for the Ferrari red and Jordan green. Looking forward to seeing your future efforts.

Nicholma

I remember experimenting with clear gloss coats, but I don't think I got around to putting any on the Jordan.

As for the exact colours, I wish I could accurately tell you, but it was just too long ago.
I'm looking at the Jordan instructions now and it says the main green on the body should be a 'bright green'. I tend to doubt it should be really bright (e.g. not Tamiya X-15 Light Green)... I imagine I chose s slightly darker green - I've got an old bottle of Tamiya X-5 Green sitting here to, so I probably put a lighter undercoat on the body and panels, then some not-too-thick coats of the X-5 over the top.

The Ferrari would've been Tamiya X-7 Red.

Hope that's of some help.

Mark,

This brings back fond memories. One of my first kits on 'return' to the hobby was an F1 car. Can't even remember which one (you'll see why in a second), but it was s Lotus with Green/Yello/White decals. I actually built it while I was in a little 'depression' and 'between-jobs'... Anyways, I put lots of hours into it and in the end was really proud of my achievement. Not perfect in many ways, but a bit symbolic and definitely special.

Then, I got a cat (some of you saw this coming...). I'll save the 'details', but picture yourself coming home from work and seeing your playful little kitty batting something around on the floor. Whatever it is, she sure is having fun with it! Oh, how free and fun the life of a young kitten must be! Then, you focus a bit more and ask, "what is that?". On closer inspection you realize it's the front wheel from your F1 car.......AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! (everything in slow-motion now...) Maybe it's just the front wheel.... yeah, that's possible isn't it?......And as you enter the spare bedroom wher the car was on display (on the top of a tall wardrobe), you see the horror and carnage of the slain F1 car laying all over the hardwood floor. Clearly, the fall from it's high perch did the most damage, but the torture and anguish that must have come after the fall .... oh my, I need to lay down...

I can't talk about it anymore. It just brings back too may tears and bad memories. And, yes, we did keep the cat, but it never, never, never happened again...

BTW, the cars look beautiful! Nice job, you should be twice as proud as you are! Can't wait to see more of the same!

More Progress Pics
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, February 12, 2004 3:37 AM
Howdy folks, just thought I'd put up a few more pics for no good reason. Well perhaps there's a reason... I like to see progress pics, so I figure a few others out there do too... anyway, here they are...

1. Stick you mongrel! Been having a REAL hard time getting this sidewall to stick without using a small sea's worth of glue on it, and having it mush out from the bottom. I think I've mostly got away with it this time...

2. My brand new 'piece holder'! Allows me to airbrush both sides of part of the rear spoiler at once. I'm quite proud of my ingenuity with this contraption, or at least I was...

3. ...until this happened...! Note to self - don't squeeze the damn wires too hard!

4. Just LOVE to look of freshly completed slicks!

That's all for now, will post anything else that's interesting.
Comments and tips welcome of course.
Happy modelling!

Garry_Gnu,

Yes it's a Tamiya kit. And the harnesses have decals on them, just the regular ones that came with the kit. I haven't used any after-market parts on any F1 kits yet.
