1956 Chrysler New Yorker?
Posted by Bbmo87 on Friday, September 9, 2011 11:36 AM

Hi All,

Has anybody ever seen the movie "Hollywood or Bust"  ?   I'd like to get my hands on a model of the  car in the movie;  I believe it's a 1956 Chrysler New Yorker Convertible, but Im not sure 100%.  My question is, has anybody ever seen this model anywhere?

Check Ebay every so often for '1/25 promo'.A lot of stuff pops up that was produced over the years for auto companies.A lot of very cool stuff actually!

No, I haven't seen the model, but they sure made great cars back then!  My first car was a used 1960 Cadillac convertible, about the same size as that beast.  Wow, I wish I still had it!  Been downhill ever since....

And no, I would not consider buying a Chevy "Volt" today!

No

Gimme a pigfoot, and a bottle of beer...

Revell made a kit of the 1956 Chrysler and re-issued it in the mid-1990s but not certain of the scale of kit

Cadet Chuck:

I don't get a "charge" from seeing the Chevy Volt, either.

Note on the Revell box the AMT logo. This was a Revell boxing of an AMT promotional model. AMT got its start in the model business doing dealer/manufacture promotional models. These promotional models are "collectable" and you may be able to find the convertible you are looking for in the form of a promotional model rather than as a kit.

The Revell kit is 1/32 scale and not promo based. It has a multi-piece body that needs a lot of fitting and fiddling to make it go together well. Detail is not great but it builds up into a pretty nice looking model considering the age. I believe that it's a Windsor and not a New Yorker and I'm sure that it's 4 door sedan and they never issued a convertible. Of course, an adventurous modeler could fix that.

The story on the Revell/AMT connection is foggy to me right now but I've seen a pretty authoritative account on another forum in the past. I suspect it might be that AMT, being a promo manufacturer, already had an exclusive deal to make models of Chryslers and Revell had to include AMT in on the action if they wanted to make a kit.

The modeler's rule of thumb: The worse it smells, the better it works!
