Revell (1/12) 2010 Shelby GT500 build thread. (Pics added.)
Posted by Higgy on Friday, September 9, 2011 4:36 PM

So I took a trip over to my LHS today to look for some new armour to build when I saw this beast sitting on the shelf. They had just gotten it in today. It is Revells new 1/12 2010 GT 500. With the GT 500 being one of my favourite cars I knew I had to build this. Paid $65 CDN for it, which I thought was a good deal considering I was going in for a $60 1/35 Leopard kit.

I will get some pics up in the next few days of the "unboxing" and will start from there. This will be a slow build as the kit is kind of spartan in regards to detail so I plan on adding detail as I go. Also note this is my first go at an automotive build in the 15+ yrs I have been building (mainly aircraft and armour). This in itself is very odd as I am a "car guy" out side of the modeling world having owned many Turbo FWD tuners in the past 10yrs.

So stay tuned and I will update as often as possible and be asking tons of questions on tips and techniques along the way. This looks like it is going to be a real fun build.

Now to start on collecting reference pics.........=P

If anyone wants any detail shots of specific parts post up and I will snap them for you. I will be doing an in depth "box opening" this coming tuesday in this post.

Here are a few teaser shots............

These are all the bags laid out on a double size bed!

The body on my computer desk as size reference.

Body with an xbox controller as size reference.

I am getting one, too on my birthday. And I plan to detail detail the engine bay. i have been looking at the service manual for the 2011 to get ideas for detailing. I am looking forward to see how your GT500 progresses.

Ever thought of seeing if they have any kits of cars you've previously owned? replicas of your automotive history?
