Posted by philo426 on Sunday, November 20, 2011 6:36 PM

Today I scored a Hubley diecast Packard for 2 dollars.IT is missing parts(Headlights windshield frame etc)but the chassis and engine are complete except for a drive shaft.Plans are to paint the body green with silver fenders. What do you think?

Great find! The missing parts shouldn't be too hard to replicate. Good luck.

Here it is after a few coats of paint(Don't worry about the flat sheen,It will have several gloss coats after the paint is cured and polished) .

The Hubley metal kit actually became the Monogram plastic kit! You should be able to use the parts from one of those to complete your Hubley!!! Great work, thus far! Good Luck!!!

THanks!I haven't posted any updates because my Airbrush went down with a bad air valve!I remember building the Monogram Packard  dual cowl phaeton in the early eighties and it had a plastic instead of diecast chassis .It was necessary to reinforce the chassis to hold the weight of the body.I may buy a new airbrush and will paint the fenders next.

I decided not to remove the wheels/tires from the front axle and rear differential to avoid the potential damage  it might cause.I wrapped them in plastic to keep them clean.

Very nice. I would like to add as the owner of 2 Hubley's and the Monogram Metals 1931 Dual cowl Phaeton and 2 Boatail speedsters and the Speedster Phaeton of 1930. Truthfully, the Monogram kits did not evolve from the Hubleys. They are even in different scales! The Monograms are 1/24th scale. Hubley  Packards are 1/22 scale. They are much larger, so I don't believe there are any parts that fit on Hubleys from Monogram. I've built them all.

Your best bet for parts (aside from going to a model show/swap meet) would be to find parts on ebay!

GoodLuck. Looking forward to seeing your build completed. Happy New Year.

Installed the muffler. One advantage of a diecast muffler and tail pipe is the realistic finish!

Just about done...a lot of work but well worth the effort.I am impressed with the tooling of this kit given that it was introduced in the early 1960s.A very nice addition to my auto collection.
