Questions on clear coat
Posted by HeadBanger on Monday, January 2, 2012 5:43 PM

Ok  I'm building my first auto since I was a kid. I'm more of a military kind of guy.   I'm in the middle of the process of can spraying Model Master enamel British Green Metallic on my Shelby Cobra.  The finish and surface are coming out quite nice actually.  I'm planning on one more 'wet coat.'

I do not want to sand or polish the metallic paint directly so I will probably apply a few clear coats, but I'm not sure what to use.  Long story short I'd prefer to stay with using a can and I want something that will respond well to very fine sanding (if needed) and polishing.  I've read to avoid using lacquer over enamel.  Is it safe to assume a gloss enamel clear will polish up well? Maybe I wont need to polish at all (?)  I guess I could pull out my airbrush if needed.

By the way, I'm posting here (not in the painting forum) so I can get some gearhead advice.  I've seen such amazing pics here I know you guys know what you are doing.  Big Smile

Thanks

I've used Testors High Gloss Clear with great success.
