I think that Renwall made a kit of the Virgil Exner Bugatti. I would love to get a hold of one of these to build and put on display at the Bugatti Trust's Museum here in the UK. Even a built up that is showing its age and knocke about a bit but could be restored would be good as well.

I never built the Renwal Stutz kit due partly due to incomplete "brass" plating but also due to lack of information about the real cars.

Thanks to the internet, information is now available on the actual cars.

Maybe we could contact Revell requesting re-issues; providing the companies holding copyrights don't want too much cash.

The Renwall Revivals were a unique set of car kits in 1/24th scale. Basically it was design exercises that Virgil Exner did in the 60's as to what a road going Duesenberg, Stutz , Mercer and Packard would look like if still in production.   As far as I know they were only issued once and never again. I think that Revell eventually acquired all the Renwall stuff.

don

somewhere else you said hard to find 'interesting' kit.

i've seen early 60's Olsonite Eagle in two places.

do you know the name of the superchargers used

on 50's indy cars? it looks like a Mc Cullough or Paxton

but i think it's a lot bigger.

for the way i build  the Kurtis Kit as is will be a challenge.Smile

you got me to look.

my Green Hornet says monogram classic and

my Kurtis Racer ( indy car not one of two midgets that just came out )

says nothing but it has SSP stamp on it.

That Kurtis Racer is actually not that bad a kit but doesn't get much respect.  It is of a car that was not a winner.  Forget the finishing position.  However, it is very representative of the Kurtis Roadsters of the era, which won many of the races.  The front suspension is bad, because it is "steerable" and this sort of wrecks it, so one has to do some work on the steering and suspension, but that is not that hard.  Use brass tubing or styrene rod stock.  I have built two of them, modified.  One represents the first Bill Vokevitch win, the fuel injection special.  The other is the Jack McGrath winner.  I have one more kit, and may build it as the car the decals are for, though I will do the suspension mods needed.  The engine is not great.  One can either make it curbside (pit side?), or  Replicas and Miniature now has the rights to the Eztel Offy engine and is offering a resin pop of that great little engine- Etzel really did a super job on the molds for that.

I have the Stutz kit in my stash.

I don't recall ever hearing of a re-issue for any of the kits.

Renwal 1/4 scale car chassis is for sale at a reseller for $1200.

it goes with 1/4 scale engine that Revell has kept in production.

Revell is reissuing Renwal military kits so maybe they'll get to

classic cars.

i have Lindberg Stutz and Mercer, they're good quality.

i know what you mean there is dearth of Precision classics.

Have A Nice Day!

That would sure be nice.  They could also re-issue the Monogram Classic cars.  Some of those were beautiful kits.  I have a couple but not the ones I want the most.

I remember the Renwal kits. I had a lot of them back in the "old days". Still have a couple of them in the stash. Have a few of their plane kits too. Have Capt. Roy Browns Sopwith Camel finished except for the rigging. Maybe I'll get it done for Mosquitocon this year.

RENWAL REVIVAL Car Kits

Does anyone remember the Renwal Revival Car Kits     Probably late 60's early 70's where they did modern takes on classics such as the Duesenberg, Stutz, Mercer and Packard. As far as I know the Renwal moulds ended up in Revell's hands, but they have never ever reissued them.
