Does anybody know if there are any decent driver figures out there? I'm looking for ones that would fit into 1/24-1/25 scale funny cars and also some that maybe with a little work would work in a fuel altered.

One of the Japanese companies (Hasagawa?) made both a driver set and a crew set. It was primarily aimed at Formula 1, but maybe the drivers could be adapted. They did have full-face helmets but you'd have to scratch the gas mask. They made both 1:25 and 1:20.

I'll check into both of those ideas thanks.
I don't know if these might work for you. I've got 2 sets a few months ago for the price of what they are asking for 1 set now. AFAIK, they have been discontinued. I have them pending for my Tamiya 1/24 WRC Toyota Corolla.
I'm looking for a couple of drivers that I think will be particularly tough. They are vintage and American open-wheel! I would like to do a diorama with a couple of the new Revell midgets. That kit has not been selling well- not many modelers interested in that stuff, so I suppose drivers for that car and era will be tough to find. The seating position is very upright, and the helmets were not full faced, nor did drivers use fire suits in those days. Standard coveralls or even T-shirts were common.
......Fujimi makes a car drivers set including a seated race car driver with a choice of heads and helmets for different periods; fifties threw the nineties. The figure doesn't seem to be in a flame suite. I'm not sure if the 1/24 figure would fit into a 1/25th midget racer..............If you're doing a standing driver figure Scale Equipment Specialist has three "car guys" figure in their "Babes and Dudes" series along with delivery drivers and others that could easily be modified. Some older AMT kits, like the recent re-release of the Double Dragster kit, include period helmets for the figure to hold onto............. Tamiya"s Rally Mechanics set also could be backdated with a little modification and a little fine grain A&B epoxy.

Yes- Fujimi- that is the Japanese company I was thinking about in my first post!
these are pictures of kit figures that I have managed to find over the years. There are others that I didn't keep the boxes from. these are either 1/24 or 1/25. close enough that they will work in either scale.
From Fujimi oone box has both sets of figures included
Tamyia figures
Hasagawa figures. They also had a set of scantly clad track queens
Italari figures
RoG firefigters including driver
Lemans Miniatures has a bunch of nice ones.

I have a specific question about the Fujimi "Garage & Tools Drivers" kit, pictured at the top left in the first photo dipty dawg ca posted. Is the kit driver's head in the modern open-faced helmet (blue with white visor) actually as shown on the box top illustration -- that is, without goggles? The reason I ask is that most driver's heads of this type are usually molded with goggles on the face. I want a driver's head in this type of helmet without goggles.
...Anyone?
Hi Drew, The head is without goggles. I have the set here & I just checked. There is a head there, blue & white, without goggles and another head, white, with goggles. Two seperate heads. Hope that answers your question.
Thanks!
